How much should I expect to pay for the process of exchanging my UK driving licence to a spanish one. TIA

Check out

www.getlegalinspain.com

Did mine for 80 Euro + 40 euro for medical early September, but the process on receiving the new Spanish licence could take up to 3 months or longer I was informed and I am still waiting, checking my post daily.

Hi Peter, we have medical appt next week....€35. I believe licence is €28, I think the notary charges €40......total = €103. Our lawyers have quoted €200 each. I think that’s a bit much

I have used getlegalinspain for most things and found them very good, especially when they chauffeur drive you to and from appointments with a translator included.

That sounds brilliant, I will contact them. We live in Villamartin, are they fairly local to this area.

Hi Patsy,

€200 each is too expensive.  I agree with Peter and would also recommend GetLegalInSpain, friends of mine are currently using them for TIEs and driving licences.

We used Matt at One Way Services, also in C.Quesada.  He charged €120 each which included the medical and driving us to Trafico in Cartagena.  After everything was complete, he even bought us coffee and a cake, before bringing us home again.

You could save yourself some money by doing it yourself, but it's so easy to let a reputable gestor do it for you - they can even make the appointments for you online.

Kind regards,

Kim

If you are not confident then using the services of a Gestor is the best way to go. When I was exchanging my UK licence for a Spanish licence I had a go myself. Filled in the form online, booked the appointment at Trafico in Elche, printed off everything, for the appointment took originals and copies of NIE, passport, UK driving licence, Residencia card, application form. On arrival took a ticket from the machine and waited my turn. Dealt with by a very helpful English speaking member of staff. She went through everything and issued me with a temporary driving licence and told me the new Spanish licence would be posted to my address in around four weeks. This lead to the only snag in the process, Trafico contact the DVA in the UK to verify your identity and details, basically they sat on it and after a couple of phone calls they finally got their act together and responded to the request. Shortly after that my new licence arrived.

Did your new Spanish licence include all your category entitlements, as that some people have had to redress this issue involving vehicles weights and measures, including towing.
