Hi guys, I holiday in spain alot so I'm looking to buy a good secondhand car I can use when I come over.  Don't mind Manuel or automatic. Have a small budget.  Will appreciate if anyone has an idea where's the best place to go.

Hi Edna, I have always used FWR Eurocars which is near the airport. Frank the owner is a genuine good guy and will do all the paperwork for you.

If he doesn’t have what you want he will try and get it for you. He is recommended on this forum by a few people.

Before you make your decision, and if you are looking for a basic model, do visit a few dealers to investigate deals available on brand new cars ( if you have an amount for a deposit)

Dealers will offer 3 year finance deals if you can show you own a home in Spain. Do the maths and balance with convenience and peace of mind of having a brand new car as they will often throw in incentives such as 3 year servicing, free first years insurance etc - we got a very good deal from Dacia in San Pedro del Pinatar. Maria there speaks excellent English

A small budget and finance for a new car is advised?

Wow, that's inbelieveably bad advice, imo.

Not really, just pointing out the options. Many people dont have the cash to purchase a brand new car outright, and so think buying secondhand is their only option - secondhand cars are comparatively expensive in Spain

If they use the budget they do have to make a substantial deposit, meaning monthly payments are then low. Running costs with a new car can be substantially lower than secondhand, especially if you’ve had other things thrown into the deal

Often home owners don’t realise finance is open to them - I’m glad someone told me about the options. It’s not secured finance

My advice was ‘do the maths’ and balance it with the convenience of having a car which will last a long time, keep its value with no ITVs for 4 years.  Going out on a limb here, but as a  woman, I feel more confident driving a newer car and made an assumption that Edna might like to consider this option too

I have used Frank on several occasions and second the recommendations made here.

Yes, I guess the new car option is good, especially for women who like the security in knowing they're much less likely to breakdown. It's just a very big commitment, I was thinking, but I'm sure Edna would know what she's taking on if she did go down that route.

As for the price of cars, I struggle to see why they're so expensive considering the average salary in Spain. I was truly shocked when I first saw the cost. Ridiculous.

Yes, unlike the Uk the value of second hand cars doesn’t seem to drop at all - one of our neighbours was recently offered a part exchange value for their 4 year old car which was the same as they paid for it new
