Are you two not even slightly concerned that all the indications are that there won't be a deal and you may well have to leave Spain and return to the UK?

Neither the U.K. or Europe ( particularly Spain ) can afford a no deal outcome.

Have you heard of the ERG, John?

Yes, a prominent member being the charismatic Jacob Rees Mogg.

And so you will also know they are a bunch of disaster capitalist hedge-fund managers who make their money by betting against the pound.

If we leave with no deal, they will clean up.

Rees-Mogg has already moved his business to Dublin so that he'll still be able to benefit from EU membership post-Brexit.

Now why would he do that if he believes all the rhetoric he spouts about how great Brexit will be?

And it's the ERG who are fighting against May's proposals for a deal with the EU.

Again, why....?

So it's fine saying that no deal would be disastrous for both the UK & the EU (far worse for the UK, by the way) but the facts are, the ERG are busy blocking ANY deal because no deal benefits them.

And they have the power to do so, especially given that Labour have said they won't vote for a deal which fails their 6 Tests (which any deal would automatically do because one of the tests requires continued access to the Customs Union & Single Market but the government's official policy is that we're leaving both) so No Deal really is the most likely outcome.

And if that happens, all bets are off and Spain cannot legally act unilaterally to protect the rights & privileges of Brits in Spain because any deal going forward would have to be ratified by the other 26 member states & then written into EU law.

And that's looking very, very unlikely.

So I hope you've got a plan for relocating back to the UK because as things stand, it appears you may well have to implement it at some point in the next 12 months.

All very possible even if I think it is unlikely, however, I strongly believe I will still be living here in Spain for many years to come, speculation continues as negotiations also continue.

Sometimes you need a bit more than "belief" though.

I tend to plan my life around facts and evidence.

I really hope I'm wrong but having watched all this closely for the last 27 months, I fear I'm not.

And the supreme irony is, Brexit is giving me the chance to fulfill my dream of moving to Spain full-time as I'll be working for a UK company over there "Brexit proofing" their European operation.

So I should be thanking Farage really....

We are all waiting to see the outcome and it's implications.

Thankfully, I have a fallback position. As I am from Northern Ireland ( and proud of my British heritage and rights ) I am also entitled to Irish Citizenship and Passport ( as the Irish Republic still claims rights over all Ireland ) which means in a post Brexit world I would still be a E.U. citizen. It goes against the grain but you have to do what needs to be done.

Ah, so there we go then.

You voted to shaft everybody else, safe in the knowledge that you'd be ok whatever happened.

Well done on doing your bit to "uphold democracy" or whatever you said about the polling station.

Must be nice to know you've got a democratic opt-out if it all goes belly up.

Glad we got there in the end...

If you put an offer in to buy a house, and the offer was accepted, you would instruct a solicitor, sort out a mortgage and get a survey.

If the survey came back with structural problems requiring costly measures, and the solicitor's searches revealed that you had only limited access to the street to go about your daily business, would you not think again ?

Is this not the situation we are in with Brexit ?    No matter how you voted in 2016, we now know that "the house" has structural problems and it will be much more difficult and expensive for British companies (who employ Britons) to go about their business.
