Spanish citizenship

Has anyone tried and succeeded an application for Spanish citizenship
I'm sure many will have but the immediate precursors are to have been legally resident in Spain for at least 10 years, have a good command of the language, and possess a reasonable knowledge of Spanish history and culture.

Friends of mine recently legally became Spanish citizens. The actual applications and process, after the requisite ten year legal residency, took another three years.

Oh Stephanie, thank you first that. I won’t be able to go through that process. The reason was my daughter needs to come to look after me but can’t afford residency, I ve lived here 16years, however if I was a citizen I could have had her here to look after me. Thank you for your reply.

I am sorry to hear this. Might it be worth her talking to her local Spanish Embassy/Consulate and asking if there are any special circumstances which would make it easier? Or have you consulted w anybody here, the social services in your local Ajuntamiento? They may possibly be able to iffer advice?
