I am a bit confused. Is a TIE card only for UK passport holders? I lived in the UK for over 50 years, paid tax and NI contributions but kept my German passport. I am now resident in Spain and have the green residency paper.
Do I need a TIE card? Would be grateful for any advice.
TIE card is for all non EU citizens. EU citizens merely require to register on the EU register of foreign EU citizens resident in Spain which is a green card. You should also have, in addition to your German passport, a German ID card.

Thank you, that is what I thought. I never had a German ID card. Got Spanish driving licence.

You can apply for your German ID card.I applied for mine through the Barcelona Consulate when I got my German Passport.

Thank you. But why would I need it? I have never needed one in all my years in UK and Spain.
EU citizens can travel throughout the EEA with just the ID card and no passport is necessary. Officially, if you don't have an ID card then you should carry your passport with you at all times to prove your identity as a driving license is not a form of ID although in practice that is no longer the case.
