Hi everyone- my husband and I will be moving to the Orihuela area of Spain from Australia where we have lived for the past 9 years in February 2022 - we will be renting a property in Vistabella Golf until the end of May until our home in Las Colinas Golf is completed- we enjoy playing golf but are not obsessive as we have a dog and other interests - we would appreciate getting a perspective on life in that area from anyone who could spare the time and be interested in getting together with us when we get out there.

Thank you so much

El

No shortage of things to do/clubs to join/people to meet .... just a few ideas.

Most things are getting going again as Covid vaccinations are rolled out.

... plus plenty of charity organisations.

Assuming you are British, have you have received advice on the post-Brexit visa implications ?

Hi - thanks for your reply and yes we are Brits and are eligible for a Golden Visa (we are already receiving advice from a company who employs lawyers, accountants and visa application specialists) it is so much more complicated now but it will be worth it in the end - we do want to learn enough Spanish to be respectful and appreciative of the Spanish people so any recommendations in that department would be very welcome.

You are fortunate to be able to access the Golden Visa.

The post-Brexit visa requirements have scuppered the plans of some people.

I know a few people who have recommended this teacher.

Yes it is very frustrating (and sad) that the repercussions of Brexit are having such a detrimental effect on Brits wanting spend their retirement years in any of the EU countries but especially Spain with its medicinal benefits to arthritis and asthma sufferers- we are as you said very lucky.

Thank you for the recommendation for tuition- very much appreciated.

Hi El, we too have a property in Las Colinas, was there for the whole of lockdown & beyond last year. Early morning dog walks through the nature trail is good, our dog loved it! They are ok with dogs on the terrace of the club house (unik) but not on the terrace of the other restaurants in Colinas. There was a dog beach too near playa flamenca beach. If you join the La Zenia or Villamartin groups they have many clubs/groups to join.

Good luck with the move

Linda

Hi Linda - thank you so much for replying and especially about the info on your dog - we are looking forward to meeting new people and their Furbabies - it’s especially helpful that you have a property in Las Colinas which I’m assuming is a part time home for you- we’re watching with great interest the building work that is in progress and hope that Las Colinas really is as beautiful as it looks as our property will be our permanent home - we are hoping to move into Las Colinas at the end of May and would love to catch up for a drink and chat if you are around then - thanks again

Hi Elaine

There is a brilliant Podcast called Lightspeed Spanish (an English chap and his Spanish wife) which is excellent for beginners. Try it out and see how you get on.

Good luck for your future in Spain.

We are part timers, much to my husbands disbelief. Colinas is beautiful and quiet (until you hear a panic stricken FOUR that is) This is our third property within the Orihuela Costa region, spanning a little over 20 years. I left work last February to spend more time over there to see if I could relocate. Unfortunately, covid hit & scuppered our plans, we left in October & haven’t managed to get back out yet. Oh and doing nothing didn’t work for me, so I ended up back in work 🙄 would be good to catch up when you’re in Las Colinas. I’m on Facebook, if you wanted to connect! Surname is Henderson.

All the best

Linda

Hi Linda

Yes retirement can be challenging if you have been used to a demanding working life but John and I have a few interests that keep us occupied and our move to Spain will introduce another phase and diversities in our lives that we are looking forward to - although I’m not a prolific Facebook user I will hook up with you if you don’t mind and will most certainly look forward to meeting you and your husband.

Thanks

El
