So since the rules have changed, does anyone know more about the possibility of doing the ferry over to Bilbao with the car and driving through Spain (to avoid France) in July, then drive back through France (since you are 'returning to your main home') at end of Aug?

Everybody seems to be expecting more or less free travel to resume before July but nobody knows for sure if it will or not.

If not and the 'returning to main home' exception is still in place in then you won't be able to get to Spain in the first place.

If it is then you will be able to travel through France both ways if you wished.

Thanks- I was working on the theory that since Spain is ‘re-open’ from July 1st (but no news in France) you could potentially go direct from UK to Spain without issue- I’d rather take car since I’m staying for 4 weeks at least and have stuff I want to bring over. At the moment France is closed but you’re right- everything could be different next week. It’s not gonna be possible to plan it I don’t think 😩

Here’s some information from Consulate General in France stating from 8 June re travelling through France. See complete article below.

“ The following people will be exempt from voluntary quarantine, except if they show symptoms:

people in transit to another country

Hope this is useful to you.

I am waiting for the Brittany Ferries to restart as well. Currently all ferries to Bilbao and Santander cancelled. Expected to restart booking at the end of June.

Spain still closed to anyone except spanish citizens or people with residencia. We will take this ferry when things reopen but I am counting on having to wait till at least the end of July. Plus the Spanish are looking to make a case out of the fact that the infection rates in the UK are still hovering at 8.000 new infections a day so they might not include the UK when they do reopen the borders. So basically, wait and see... We are stuck in temp accomodation waiting to travel to Spain where our house is. We didn't have the chance to get our residencia sorted in January when there...

The Brittany Ferries website is still not taking bookings and all of their phone lines have been put on an automated message. Can't even call them and they do not reply to emails. I heard somewhere (romour warning...) that it isn't even that sure that they will come back as before as their finances weren't great even before the Covid mess...

Wait and see is the message here...

Elmer.
