It depends on what you mean by 'local manufacture'.

At the beginning of the estado de alarma, face masks (mascarillas) were in short supply to the general public and a cottage industry was put in motion to make home made ones. This consisted of, not only commercial enterprises, but also the madres y abuelas sewing away at the kitchen table.

Our ayuntamiento provided every person in the town with a home made mascarilla, which we all wore until the farmacia had stocks.

Since then, everyone and his tia who has a sewing machine produces them for sale and they are as good as the 'fashion' ones you can buy in the more expensive shops and Chino mercados.

So, I have used a locally produced mascarilla of unknown origin, a home made one crafted from a handkerchief, a couple from the Chino and loads from AliExpress.

Why bother? The chemist I use is selling the ordinary surgical masks for 78 cents.

Bear in mind that the mask you wear protects other people - it doesn't protect you. If you want protection, then wear a face shield. I've done that in Aldi and Consum, was able to breathe comfortably and without my specs steaming up, and it protected both myself and other people I came close to.

I've got almost 100 'surgical' mascarillas I bought variously from AliExpress some months back. However, it's nice to dress up sometimes and wear a cloth one. Some ladies have a matching mask for every outfit they put on 😀

As for face shields, I thought that both the BOE and the Generalitat say that mascarillas have to be worn as well?

I agree, Ray. That's why I've not used the shield this last few days.

Correction - I have used it - it's much better than the paint spray mask I used to use when running my sander on the workshop.
