If a non-resident visitor were to unfortunately pass away in Spain, what would a straight forward cremation funeral in Spain  cost? Anyone had the misfortune to know someone's family who had to avail this without having had a funeral plan? Details, etc. would be appreciated. Funeral plans sellers need not reply. Thanks in anticipation.

My resident neighbours husband passed away April last year and the cost for a basic cremation in Torrevieja was in the region of 4,000 euros, I am on the understanding this covered everything.

Would the hypothetical tourist not have health/travel/repatriation insurance ?

Now that insurance is difficult to get if travelling against FCO guidance, and repatriation is the biggest risk/cost, I too am wondering about the costs of being disposed of in Spain

Hi Val,

If such a situation did come to pass and was not covered by travel insurance, the best option would be to approach the crematorium direct.  In this region that would be Grupo ASV:

You could call them to get an idea of costs, but an appropriate level of travel insurance will almost certainly be a much cheaper option - unless the person travelling is uninsurable because of age or pre-existing conditions?

Kind regards,

Kim

Thank you all for your kind and helpful responses. Travel insurance is an alternative, particularly for self and Mrs as frequent travellers (have a property in Spain) and are non-resident visitors; age and pre-existing med condition do indeed bump up the cost of travel ins. for both single and multi-travel journeys.

My Mum passed 4 1/2 years ago, the cremation cost roughly 2,500, Mum had left instructions to absolutely not spend any money on her funeral just like my Dad, have to say was shocked at the coffin etc cremated next day no service, it could even of been less than that (Torremolinos)my sister knew how to do it on the vheap

It won't cost a penny if you donate the remains to any investigation institution (University, Hospital etc.).
