Hi to everyone on the forum.

I am having a major problem with my health insurers GENERALI.  We have been policy holders for 9 years and only used their services a couple of times.  My husband tried to give them the required 2 months notice of cancellation yesterday.  They have now been in touch and told us we cannot cancel the policy “mid year” and will have to carry on paying our premiums of €214 until December.

Every time we have taken out any sort of policy we have always been told we can cancel as long as we give 2 months notice in writing.

Has anybody experienced this problem with GENERALI????

Many thanks.

Two months is the standard term for giving notice of cancellation - if a policy allows it mid term - or that you do not wish to renew.

I think in general you'll find that health insurance policies must be paid for the full year but it will tell you in the T&C's.

Once you've entered into a contract for one year's insurance, that it - you have to pay for that year.

If you don't want to renew that policy when the year is up, you need to give one month's - not two - notice.

Thanks everyone.  Yes it does clarify our situation and with everything going at the moment it’s a very small problem to be worried about.   Take care.

I must presume that health insurance is different because I had intended switching my home insurance last year but inadvertently ran into the 11th. month and because of that couldn't give notice.

We had something similar, not insurance but internet rental. When we cancelled we were presented with a bill which we queried. We had to pay for the full year.
