I am finding this website infuriating, seemingly more focused on advertising than making sure it is user friendly. I shall wear out my pen rubber wading through the adverts to find anything!

I need to find a message I received, but because it originated elsewhere, all I can bring up are replies to messages originated by myself.

Any help would be gratefully received thank you.

Maureen

Assuming that it was a public message posted on the forum rather than a private one, if you were to provide some further detail as to the topic to which it related then it may be possible for someone to find it through searching for it.

Cheers,

Hello and thank you - it was a private message

Try clicking the small envelope at the top of this page. Here you will see your private messages.

Bloody advertising get in the way of everything and I'm sure drive people AWAY from advertisers not to them!

My vow is to NEVER buy from any unsolicited advertising so are completely wasted on me.

Regarding your missing message I presume you've accessed your PM's via the envelope icon in the top tight of the page?

Have you checked your emails too, email notifications are ON be default.

Thank you re emails!

But I agree with you I will never buy anything this way. In fact there is so much advertising it puts me off the Forum altogether. I accept some to pay overheads but this is an assult on my time and overpowers the reason I clicked on in the first place.

I think alot depends on the device that you are accessing the forum with - on a laptop, most of the adverts appear down the side so don't materially impact viewing of the various forum posts.

On a tablet or phone, I'm less certain.

It is possible to download certain add-ins that restrict advertising content, but I doubt that would work in respect of the adverts down the right hand side - it would more likely be succesful in respect of the adverts that appear at the top and bottom of any thread as you read through it.

If the adverts are annoying anybody & putting them off, they might well consider that without them, there probably wouldn't be a site to visit.

It's not free to operate a site like this, far from it actually, so why should Alex be expected to foot the bill for our collective benefit?

You either get a free to use site with ads or an ad-free one that you pay a monthly fee for.

If you read an earlier post I did accept a certain amount is needed to cover costs. I use an iPad  therefore nothing on the side. It's all there to wade through first.

AdBlock Plus or its equivalent (Google provides a number of solutions) should help. But for most of the apps, you will pay a fee so in some ways it doesn't really elimate the problem if you want to view the website but not see ads and not pay a fee.
