Good morning all,

What is the general consensus if one was to exceed the 90 day period by 14 - 30 days. With March 31st looming all non residents "must" then exit the country.

Obviously a number of people will feel safer here and will not want to return to a lock down or 10 days hotel confinement should Spain be put on the containment list.

What are the penalties likely to be for out staying the period?

Hi

Hotel confinement/quarantine is for non UK residents or citizens from the red list countries. UK residents and citizens will need  only to quarantine in the safety of their own homes.  So your friends will better off complying with the regulations without the fear of fines or in the future being refused entry to the EU.

On the plus side they will get their vaccines a lot quicker in the UK.

Regards

Vivienne

Thousands of hotel rooms are being block-booked by the UK government hours after it confirmed quarantine rules related to Covid variant hotspots will begin on 15 February.

Hi mik2393,

You don't need to rely on the personal opinions of forum members to answer your friend's question, when the official position is well-publicised:

"Under the Schengen Area rules of stay for third-country citizens, non-EU citizens entering the territory under the visa-free regime can stay for a maximum of 90 days, for every 180 days.

"Those who overstay this period – intentionally or unintentionally – may face penalties, including deportation and entry bans."

Kind regards,

Kim

Hi John,

People are asking the same about England: in an article in this morning's Telegraph, "Despite the strict rules and the scramble to find enough (hotel) rooms, the Government still faces plenty of critics asking why the policy isn’t being applied to travellers from all countries, given the objective is to keep out dangerous mutations."

If England was my country of residence and I was elsewhere in the world right now, I'd be trying to get a flight back asap.

Kind regards,

Kim

It would be difficult to expand the quarantine requirements to all countries as there just too many people. It was quoted on the BBC this week that 21000 are still arriving daily into Heathrow. Unless they block flights then the capacity needed to run such a scheme would be immense. It's not just the hotel rooms but all the support functions that are required - transport to/from hotels,  guards at the hotels, food to all the rooms, etc etc.

I think blocking non-British nationals from specific high risk countries and having hotel quarantine for British nationals returning from  high risk countries is probably the best that can be achieved. This is why the government vaccine rollout plan is so critical, to protect the high risk people asap.

Hi aitch,

I said others are asking questions about the Government's policy, not whether I agree with it, or not.

Kind regards,

Kim

Hi Kim,

sorry,  my post was just a general comment on the practicality, not intended to imply that you or anyone else was for or against..

Rgds,

Aitch.

Hi just to throw another spanner into the mix, we are due to return with our motorhome and dog from Santander to Portsmouth late March, I have researched how we will get our antigen test, will be completing our locator form and do the quarantine  so all’s well we hope, unless things change in the meantime.

I know the hotel quarantine is for air travel, but what about the travelling public coming in  to the uk via port entry

Also do people know haulage drivers from all over the EU are exempt from having to show a negative COVID test to enter the uk, and some of these will be mixing with me on my ferry !! I assume “ it’s to keep the supply chain moving” is the explanation.

I am hearing that people from banned travel corridors, will try and bypass this by travelling indirect and getting through legitimate travel corridors, for example coming from Portugal and getting a flight out of Spain.

So no change of keeping mutant COVID strains out
