Private or NHS

If private very quick if NHS depends on what is wrong and the consultant can take some times 6-12 months.but best to ask the will normally give you a rough idea.

My wife had big knee problems and as the local hospital delayed and delayed ,we went to Kraków in Poland (direct Ryan flight from Alicante) and went to Ortopedicum Hospital http://www.ortopedicum.pl/en dedicated to little else but knees and hips. Superb care. Cost for one knee was around €4-5000. You need to allow about three - four weeks and accommodation is VERY reasonable as are the buses (free for over 70s). Four Friends Hostel/Hotel is very good. Private room (small) with bathroom available on ground floor when we went: https://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g274772-d2719792-Reviews-4_Friends_Hostel-Krakow_Lesser_Poland_Province_Southern_Poland.html. If you would like more info, send me a private message. Hope this helps.PS Kraków is a very beautiful city - well worth visiting in its own right.

Hi Rob, don't know about the Torrevieja hospital, but a couple of years ago I decided to bite the bullet and get a new knee (hospital Vega Baja). I can't remember how long I waited but it was only a few months.

We have friends who've had new knees and a hip done privately. Had the op, sent home, and that was it.

I had the op, was sent home with 30 injections against DVT and other prescriptions, two months physio, and three follow-ups with the surgeon. I can't fault the treatment I received on the 'NHS'.

On my last check-up with the surgeon, I gave her an A4 photo of me on top of Orihuela mountain, with text saying ta very much and I couldn't have done it without her.

Thanks Jim , very encouraging . I will see what they say , mine is very bad now , I have to rest to ease the pain every 200 metres or so . I am going to buy a car , at least then I can get around . Just waiting for S1 to come and then get residency.

Just one more point - Four Friends is just five minutes' walk from the hospital. There are frequent buses to town and perhaps more importantly, the airport. No need for taxis (though these are also very cheap).

Hi Nicola , I am very sorry to hear that and hope they will soon be able to do it for you . Now I know that , I may have to leave Spain and go back to UK as I can get it done quicker there and now my knee is getting worse each week so now I can only walk a short distance and the pain is really bad so I have to sit down .    It is not like normal knee arthritis (I had that for 15 years and just lived with it ) so I' m a bit desperate now and don't know what to do , my house in UK sold but no completion yet ,I may have to cancel the sale and lose my buyer .I could manage better if I had a car but don't have NIE yet..  I wondered if I could get it done quicker here if I  bought house in another town
