Hi everyone...My card expired at the end of March and I had an appointment to renew it before the crisis started...Is the Town Hall open Playa Flamenca or can I make an appointment at my local health centre...Many thanks...Graham.

Hi Ray...I've retired early and living here from my personal pension, so I'm not old enough for my state pension...I have full Residencia, Padron and NIE number and have Spanish private health insurance as well...Any ideas !!!...Thanks.

Hi Graham, in your circumstances I can't see that you have any entitlement to a SIP card.

Hi Graham,

If you have PHI, why are you concerned to get your temporary SIP renewed?  If you have a health problem, why not just contact your health insurer?  They are an essential service during lockdown.

On the basis of what you've told us, Cheryl's correct, you're not entitled to a SIP.  This may be a hang over from when some health centres used to issue 6-month temporary SIPS to non-residents.  It was done to ease their admin burden, especially when holiday home owners, staying up to 6 months in another EU country, needed healthcare on a reciprocal basis using the EHIC.

If 'lockdown' is lifted and you can get an appointment before the end of June, you may be lucky, but they will cease to be valid at the end of the Brexit transition period anyway, so they're unlikely to be reissued once there's less than 6 months to go before we finally leave the EU.

Kind regards,

Kim
