Hi all, just after a bit of general feedback really. We are considering moving to Orihuela early next year. We plan on buying a property, not working as we are both taking our pensions early at 55. However, thinking about private health insurance...I had cancer 5 years ago so I assume it could be a problem for me getting health cover. Has anyone had any experience of being able to get private health insurance with such a pre-existing condition? Is it possible? Are the premiums prohibitively expensive? Any advice that you can give would be very much appreciated.

You only need to consider the cost for the first year which you need to have paid upfront for Residency, after this you can join the Convenio Especial for about €65 a month each until you reach retirement age when, all things being equal post Brexit, we may be able to continue with the existing reciprocal healthcare agreement. Who knows?
Jim Taylor has done a guide on the Convenio Especial https://www.costablancaforum.com/area/almorad%C3%AD-spain-11/healthcare-medical-advice-in-almorad%C3%AD-16/jims-guide-convenio-especial-buy-into-state-health-care-36444/ and it covers pre-existing conditions but you have to pay in full for medication. As you will be under the Spanish health system it is likely to be conducted in Spanish so an interpreter would be needed for appointments.
Two Insurance brokers get recommended on the forum, Jennifer Cunningham in Benijófar and Alfonso (?) at Gran Alicant Insurance although I have no personal experience of either.
