We sold our house end February and through no fault of our own the sale has dragged on - there's only our buyers and theirs in the chain!

But this delay has put doubts in our head - we should be in Spain by now, sorting out our house (which we started renting 2 months ago!).  I know doubts creep in for most things we do in life but when they involve moving 1500 miles away seem worse!

We still need the completion date, hopefully this week and then arrange our cat transport - been changed once, removals, also been changed once and seems like all too much to do it again!

Did anyone else get all this and the doubts and it went ok and weeks later sat on terrace/balcony and think it was worth all the tears and arguments.  This has been the best and worst thing we have ever started.

The alternative is pull out of sale or delay the completion and go elsewhere in the UK - we'd lose the rent we've paid but it's not a huge amount of money.  All we wanted was a new easy life!

Sorry for moans but just though at 3am - it can't go easy for everyone!

Stick with it.Many years ago we made our move to Spain from Sussex. The English selling system is a nightmare. At the last moment,in fact the morning we were to complete, the buyer demanded 10,000 pounds Sterling off of the agreed price. He was well aware we were leaving the country & had bought a business here.It was a rotten trick & we refused but picked up a genuine buyer very quickly so it worked out well. There will be loads of things you will wonder about, thinking if you have made the right choice. But I can only say I have been here for over 30 years & never want to return to UK.However we are all different.Best wishes for your future, whatever you decide.

Well worth it in the end you will wake up wondering why you did not do it earlier!  Some people however will never be happy wherever the are! hopefully you are not one of those!  Personally it is things like this that make us love Spain you can buy a house in a week in some cases and sun to boot!

Don't give up our buyer in UK messed us around something rotten . Been through loads of stressful situations and that was the worst but we got through it.

It will all be ok then it will just become a distant memory x

By now I would be demanding serious explanations for the delay and looking for another buyer. And informing your purchasers of this. Understanding and sympathy only go so far, this is YOUR life they are messing about!

I had some problems buying my house earlier this year too! At times I thought it would never happen and I just couldn’t see how I would ever get through the niggles and paperwork. Spoke to lots of friends about it who’ve done it and it awakened a long forgotten memory for them...”oh yes, they told me, I remember that but it was such a long time ago and anyway it all gets sorted in the end...”. Well let me tell you they are right. It does happen in the end and it will be happy ever after. I had doubt right up until they slid the keys across the table and half an hour later I was standing in my new kitchen drinking bubbly. You only have doubts because much of the process is out of your control. It will all work out fine. Smile. You’re one of the lucky ones..!!!

Hi, I know exactly how you feel, and yes you do definitely start having doubts. I have been in the middle of a buying process since March. Thought I would have been there now , just had hiccup after hiccup. It’s really wearing, I wish you luck and that you will be sorted soon, as my mum use to say ‘ if it’s meant to be it will happen ‘ and all things come to those that wait 🙄 let’s hope that’s true 👍

Me and my husband did this less than 2 years ago, we sold in the UK to rent in Torrevieja for 6 months while we looked for a home to buy, we did it so we could retire early and live off our savings and some of the house sale money until we get our pensions in 3 years time, we are now settled in our own home and love it. I often wonder how we got through all of it, the tears tantrums, screaming and shouting, which was some thing we hadn't done for years, the stress of the sale the move and then the buying in Spain, then came the building work we had done. It is scary and you will worry, but honestly it is worth it in the end. Every time I got stressed about things I just thought to my self, thousands of people do this every year, it must be worth it. Chase your solicitor, our sale was delayed and when we phoned he said "Oh yes it is sat in front of me ready to be signed". All the best with your move, just hang on in there.

Thank you so much for your replies - this has been a 30 year dream for us and you're right why should solicitors/estate agents and useless buyers put us off!

Made me quite emotional reading them.

We have done everything we could to get there - our solicitor has been pushing our buyers but the buyers buyer and solicitor is useless.

We have just been for a long walk and penned a complaint letter in out heads... made us feel better, even is we don't send it!

No news on a completion today... there's always tomorrow!!

Many thanks again - fingers crossed I'll come back with news that I'm coming soon!!

Well this is food for thought for all of us reading this who plan to make the permanent move to Spain at some point!  However, as one who has not yet started the process I really hope it all works out as everyone says it will, and they should know. If you did give up, would you ever get this far again?  Your dream would be over, and there are reasons why you decided to make the move in the first place.  And just an extra thought, if you did decide to move elsewhere in the UK instead wouldn't you have the same, or worse problems, given our long winded processes?

That first glass of bubbly in your new home will be well deserved - Good Luck !
