Hi - update - still in UK!

The exchange contracts and completion dates were still being discussed when we had to decide whether or not to send our cat without us knowing when or if we would get there or not... !

So as we were haemorrhaging money for 2 houses - rental sprain/mortgage here we have decided to wait until the contracts are exchanged here - rent here for a few months to try and recoup some of the losses we have incurred.  Plus with all the stress here we didn't think we had it in us to go through it straight away in Spain to get papers etc sorted there.  Plus other costs increased over there eg car hire as it's now summer, until we get sorted to buy one (I had a good quote for May but!!).

So sadly I wont be in Spain this year I don't think (unless Mr Lottery looks kindly on me!).

We knew house selling was stressful when we decided to sell and that it wouldn't be easy going to a new country but you really couldn't make up what has happened in a 3 way chain, and still goes on!  Thank god we had a good solicitor who stopped us putting more money into deposits for various services as she said don't as the conveyancing from our buyers (an online one they used) and their buyers were appalling.

I will get there but slightly delayed - I've cried buckets but now putting that into positive energy to get back on track, move hopefully end August(?) and plan again!

So I wont be drinking my body weight in Cava quite yet!!

Onwards and upwards!

I think these kinds of situations are more common than not, mainly due to the Byzantine purchasing process in UK and with no penalties for ‘messing about’ until actual ‘exchange’ which is usually only a short time before actual completion.

Like many people, we had a similar situation, sold property, paid reservation fee on property here, UK sale fell apart - not, it has to be said, due to any fault on the part of our purchasers, but a completely unforseeable difficulty causing them to pull out. Cue fury, resentment and general misery all round. Luckily as it happened, it suited the vendor of our property here to remain in situ for another 6 months or so,so in the end, all worked out - except that by then the UK market was slowing and we had to drop from the original offer we had accepted, thus technically ‘losing’ money.

But everything always sorts itself out I have learnt!

Good luck and do not despair.

When we moved we made sure that our house in England was sold first so we were in a very good position  financially so we feel for you.  When you finally move you will be so happy that you did it and will never want to go back so good luck with selling your house in England

Hi there,

Obviously emotions run really high with a big move.

I was suddenly widowed, sold my house in the uk 2 yrs ago, my parents sold theirs too and we made the big leap! 😬😁

I made a big gamble and it paid off, our properties sold 2 days before signing at the notary!

Boy what a rollercoaster of a ride....

But yes......we did sit with a drink by the pool of our new home and shout ~ ‘we did it!’ 😁

We have had our moments with adjusting, the biggest one being too trusting, beware of those that see you as a ‘naive walking wallet’. That lesson learned, I wouldn’t change a thing.

There’s a lot to be said for the ‘sun on the soul’

Life is so very short, don’t waste a moment of it, you can always change direction if it doesn’t suit you.

I wish you all the very best! 😊😁😊

I feel sad and angry at the way genuine people selling their property are treated in England. I know about being messed about when selling a property, although I really do have to say that in all my dealings with the sale of my properties the biggest and most frustrating so called buyers have always been the women, they messed me about so many times, on the two ocassions I was selling, all the problems were caused by women who either 6 months after putting in a offer pulled out for very vague reasons. So now I have my present house in Lancashire for sale and again the first woman again changed her mind so now I am will only take a offer by a man as in the previous sales it has only sold to a man never a woman.

So I am hoping to get a buyer soon and then rent somewhere near Alicante for long enough to find the right place and location.

Oh and by the way as I write this it is p++++ng down her as usual, almost monsoon weather conditions.

Whilst sympathising with your series of unfortunate experiences, you may be treading on difficult territory stating, as I understand your post, in principle that offers will only be accepted based on gender. This could be construed as discrimination, which is, I believe, illegal.

Good Luck with your sale.

I take it you are looking to sue me if i do sell to a man and not a woman.

But my stating the truth does not change one iota and I think you will find others in the UK have fallen on the same stoney ground.

No, I’m not going to, but making those kinds of statements does leave an unpleasant taste.................

If you're cat is under 8KG you can take them into the cabin on an Iberia flight, it costs about £40. We took both of ours here and got some diazepam from the vets for them. Good luck!

I know how you feel we went through the same thing as you earlier in the year. The UK process of buying a house or selling is a joke. We were very lucky because we sold to a relative who loved our house in the UK so as long as they could get a mortgage etc it was ok.

Still took a long time though mainly ber the solicitor that they had to use ( the banks make you use them) I wonder why lol, went on holiday for 2 weeks and nothing happened. We had till the end of April to complete or would lose the 3000 euros we had put down on house in Spain. We did it with 2 weeks to spare.

All worth it in the end but still a lot of red tape to sort out and we are still doing it.

Keep going good luck
