Hi there, hubby and I are out in Spain doing a recci. So far have viewed properties in Villamartin, los dolses, playa Flamenca but just don’t seem to like anything. Everything is so small and pokey with minimum outside space. We have a large dog and need outside space. Can anyone recommend an area slightly inland from Villamartin where we would get more house for our money. We have over over £130,000 budget so should be finding something half decent but just don’t seem to be able to 🙁

Try contacting Sharon or Jamie from LiveSpainforLife who have a lot of properties around Albatera which is just off the AP7 between Alicante and Murcia. There is an ex-pat presence but still very Spanish but it really depends on what you are looking for as there are many urbanisations everywhere but also more traditional towns and villages which don't change much all year. Many urbanisations have a lot of empty properties in the winter and the owners don't want a lot of land to maintain. Will you be living here full-time as that will make a huge difference?
We moved over last summer and have learnt a lot, although very much worth the effort. Houses in Spain are built with the heat of the summer in mind, not the cold and damp of the winter, and believe me, imagine living in an unheated shed when the temperature drops, it is not nice, so LPG gas central heating going in ready for next winter! Open fires and log burners look very cosy but they use shed loads of wood and are dirty.
Damp is always a problem for low-lying areas close to the water table and mozzies just love it.
If it is important to be close to golf courses I think you may struggle to get more room within your budget.

Pop in and have a chat with Pete at Ole International, they have an office in the El Campo supermarket mall in La Zenia Boulevard. He's been selling property on the Costas for 18 years, he has time for people, knows the area really well. He also has a big 🐕 so will more than understand your dilemma.
