Hi, I'm currently living in Mazarron Costa Calida and thinking of moving to Orihuela Costa.

I don't drive so would like somewhere that has supermarket(s) pubs, etc within walking distance, I've looked at La Florida but it's hard to gauge if there's shops there.

Where do you all live and what's the pros and cons of living there ? I'm not a beach person so that doesn't really matter.

Would love to hear other peoples reasons for living where they do.

Use Google maps to help you, if you get a map up in the area you can search that area asking for supermarkets etc.

The area around the Abbey Tavern has an excellent ferreteria, excellent places to eat and drink and a  supermarket.

The main shopping area is Zenia Boulevard foe clothes shops etc.

If you don’t drive you might find the area a little isolated as bus services can either be non existent or very irregular. That’s talking across the general area and not just La Florida.

Hello

To establish what is "within walking distance" will depend on where you buy/rent your property.

Even though some areas have restaurants,supermarkets/banks/health centres, you will still have to choose carefully how far away they are from where you live. Come and visit the area , it should help you decide

Cheers

I have had a holiday home in La Florida for 20 years and love the area, however I always have the use of a car too.

As you don't drive may I suggest that you consider the area of Punta Prima, this is on the edge of La Florida and Playa Flamenca, all these areas are linked up by a small shuttle bus doing a circular route which stops at Torrevieja hospital, La Zenia Boulevard and Playa Flamenca beach to name just a few.

The advantage of Punta Prima to yourself would be that the area is mainly flat and has access to many walkable bars and restaurants, supermarket, Pharmacy, Doctors, Banks etc but importantly also walking distance to the main N332 road and access to the buses which run between Cartagena and Torrevieja to enable you to travel further afield should you wish to explore the area a little more.

If you are buying you will find that property on the seaside of the N332 is more expensive than the other side of the N332.

Best of luck with your search, Ken.

Thank you, I had never considered punta prima so will have a look.

My husband has a car so for big shops etc we’d use the car. I like the idea of being able to be independent and be able to go places on my own.

You are welcome, it isn't a huge area but has lots of facilities, from the roundabout on the main road it all spreads out from there including a relatively new parade of bars and restaurants.

There is a footbridge over the road as the N332 does get busy in that area but much quieter away from the roundabout.

The shuttle bus which I mentioned earlier runs every 90mins or so in summer time, a bit less frequent in winter and weekends, it would be a great way to familiarise yourself with the area, get on it in Punta Prima and stay on it until you reach your stop again, you can get off at La Zenia Boulevard and change to a 2nd shuttle which does a circular route around Villamartin, La Zenia and Cabo Roig, doesn't cost much either.

Are you looking for a particular type of property ? Lots of new style apartments but not so many Villas.

Los Dolses is also a good area, supermarket, bank, restaurants, walking distance to La Zenia boulevard, Villa Martin Plaza, but be aware buses are few and far between in any area.

Looking for a small villa or quad, we have a little dog so don’t want an apartment. I will definitely check out the area tho as it sounds like it has a lot of what I’m looking for.

Thank you this is another area I wasn’t familiar with so will check it out.

We will drive up after the new year and get a feel for everything, I’ve been to the Boulevard quite a few times plus Villa Martin, but wasn’t really paying to much attention as it was just a shopping day out.

Good luck, there are plenty of estate agents around there if you Google.
