We are hoping to move to our house in Playa Fksmenca next year. We know about applying for residency but wondered what we do regards the forwarding of post from the UK. We are keeping our house in the UK and renting it, do we set up a P.O. address for things like credit cards to be sent to? Can you still keep a UK bank acoiint with a debit card? Apologies for all the questions but these are important things. Obviously we still have the Brexit madness hanging over us but that makes us want to move over even more! Many thanks

We set up a Post Office redirection to our daughter´s UK address for a year to pick up anything we had missed, got as much changed to e-mail as possible and changed everything else to our Spanish address. We bank with Lloyds and there were no problems with them allowing us to continue keeping our debit and credit cards, but some credit card companies couldn´t accommodate an overseas address. This wasn't a problem as we didn't intend using them anyway as any purchases would be considered as foreign.

Thank you Cheryl. Sorry but what do you mean when you say any purchases will be considered as foreign? We bank with Sabsdell  over here and they charge around €30 per quarter.

Many thanks

If I intended buying anything with my UK credit or debit card in Spain. Also, you would have to change your Sabadell account to a resident's account once you have residency.

Maybe when Lloyds and TSB split they changed the rules?

You can have the Post Office redirect you mail to a location in Dorset where it is scanned. Then you can see it all online. You can choose which items are

- destroyed

- sent on to you (or someone else)

- or you can download it to your pc for printing etc

The service in Dorset is called ukpostbox

We moved here in November 2015. I have a Lloyds current account debit card and a Lloyds MasterCard. There was absolutely no problem with changing to a Spanish address. The only thing you can't do is open a new account. We still have pensions paid into Lloyda, but our main income goes in Sabadell. When the exchange rate is good I transfer money across from the UK. It is useful to retain a UK account in case you want to buy anything from a UK website. I do online banking, but whenever I have asked for paper statements for official purposes, they have always posted them to me without any quibble. My address on their system is in Spain. Just give them a ring and ask, that's what I did before I even bought the Boise and moved over.

Thank you all very much. Do the banks send the debit and credit cards to your Spainish address okay?

Yes, we have never had any problems, and you get them long before the expiry date.
