There has been a guy going around los Altos and los balcones asking for money to pay a locksmith to get him and his family back into his house after being burgled yesterday at 2pm. He was standing in the rain soaked to the skin and then banging on the door asking for assistance. After his story he said he needed 24 euros to give the locksmith after paying him 500 euros already. The max he could get from his arm. We took pity and gave him the money...then he asked if we could take him into Torrevieja to the locksmith to give him his money.  We did..he stopped at 3 different races and finally got out. He never came back!°°???

Hello

This  is  a common scam that has been doing the rounds for years. About 6yrs ago a friend of mine - she's  back in the UK now, fell for this same  story in La Mata - he  even said he had  kids in the car & took her to the street to show her. She fell for the story and gave him €75  & he said he'd be back when he got into his house!! Be aware, if you're in the Los Altos/Balcones area

Cheers

Different scams are booming and will even more as people become jobless and are pushed into poverty. Sad but true. Do not open your door to unknown persons - ANY.

Hi...thanks...my partner even gave him her fleece...a pair of my socks and a pair of my pants plus a pair of joggies.....plus 24 euros and a ride into Torrevieja to 3 different addresses where he jumped out returning a few minutes later...then same at 2and address which was a 24hr mini supermarket...then the 3rd address was a block of flats behind the central salud. After 30 mins wait...several horn blasting for him to appear...we realised and returned home half expecting our place to have been turned over while we were out!  It wasnt. We were very stupid but he was very clever and seemed very genuine standing his 6ft 4inch soaking wet in the torrential rain we were getting at the time I  Torrevieja. After three and a half years we thought we were reasonably streetwise....so wrong there. The guy seemed to have a German accent with excellent english...approximately 6ft 4inch..slim with greying large stubble Roberts...around 42 years old! Whatcha out for him! It seemed a lot of trouble for 24 euros and cant help thinking what else might he have done had I been alone in the car with hi.. always..take..your..partner in this type of situation.  He was ever doing lots of shouting and appealing.. eading using the torrential rain as well to create some chaos and urgency...also saying the locksmith closes in an hour...need to go now etc....I look forward to meeting him one day in a bar!!!!!

Hello All , I have just had a guy at my door this morning , who fits the same description . I didn’t open the door to him and he was soaked to the skin and with a towel over his head . I thought he was very strange looking and he was shouting something which I couldn’t make out . We have to be alert I think .

Hi, we got caught out with him in San Luis a couple of weeks ago. Reported him to the Guardia. Not that we'll ever see him again!

Hi Jane , sorry you had that experience but it’s good that you reported him , I’ll do the same if I see him hanging around again .

The obvious response is to say "just stay there while I call the Guardia to come and help you out". NEVER get in a car with a stranger in a situation like that.
