I have read some scary articles regarding burglary and squatters. Any advice would be welcome

There is little  one can do. An alarm system is useless if the registered owner is away as he is the only  athorized person to intiate legal action. However there are "other means" to defend one's property.

Get some ideas watching "Home Alone", and find out about what you can do with nicotinsulphate, and many more "gimmicks". It's all in the books.

Hello Henry,

Take all  the usual precautions that you would take anywhere you have a home, even evidence of life in/outside is a deterrent. I have keys to 3 apts, one owner has lights on a timer coming on /off for example.  Ask your local police station for advice.

Find a reliable keyholder ( a neighbour if poss.) who will check your property regularly & keep you informed.

Cheers

Elinspain

Effective and continuous surveillance is better than any alarm system, but once squatters are inside (in less than 3 minutes) no keyholder or any other person but the legal owner is entitled to apply for a necessary eviction order.
