Hello can anyone help assuming the dreaded Brexit goes through. I understand you can spend 90 days in every 180 in Spain. In an ideal world we would like to spend six consecutive months I assume this is not possible based on that ruling. Does anyone know then how The year runs for example we would want to spend the winter months January February March go back in October November December but that would mean that December runs into January meaning it’s a solid six months. So I guess it would depend on where the year for this routine begins and ends any ideas anyone kind regards thank you all Denise

Hello, I think a temporary residency may be your answer,

  • Temporary residence permit: Temporary residence permit is authorizing a stay in Spain for a period longer than 90 days and shorter than five years. Authorizations for a period not exceeding five years may be renewed regularly, at the request of the person concerned, depending on the circumstances leading to their issuance. How to get a temporary residence permit? Initial authorization for temporary residence not involving a work permit shall be granted to foreigners who have sufficient means of subsistence for themselves and, if applicable, for their family members. Current regulations set forth the procedure and requirements for obtaining a Spain residence permit and authorization for work in Spain in order to engage in gainful activity as a self-employed or as an employee. This permit can also be applied for by foreigners who having previously lived in Spain, do not need to meet the requirements needed to obtain a permanent residence permit.

Oh thank you for your reply I have not heard of this before. My husband is 67 and will be retired I am 50 and also I will be retired. I assume we would not be able to use the S1 form for healthcare with myself as his dependent if we use this method. Is this correct I assume we would have to have private health care? Thank you very much

I agree with Pete, the big problem at present is that there is so much uncertainty over Brexit and it leaves the door open for all the scaremongers to peddle a vast variety of "ifs" and "buts",
