Ours took 3 months to come through - its because there has been a surge of requests apparently (Brexit). Ours is next Tuesday (and Wednesday - you have to have one appointment per person in a couple).  It can't come quick enough!

Hi there,

Where did you get the health insurance from as that's the only requirement I need...

Thanks,

Graham.

Our solicitor sorted this out for us  and we just checked the policy and paid.  I think the company is called Catalana. I can see someone else has replied and given you a referral link for another company so hopefully this will help x

Check out paying into the Valencian Health Care system it is cheaper than private and you get access to local doctors and hospitals. You can access the Spanish Health Care Service. Go to your local surgery and find out how to pay in.

This is something you can do if you are under State Pension age and have your Residencia for one year, otherwise you still need your Private Health Insurance for that first year.

Ok I assumed the poster was under state pension age as they were asking about private health care. Valencia Health Care is for residents otherwise why would you need it,vyour travel insurance covers holiday home travel. I believe if you are resident and pay Valencia Health care it is as long as you require it not time limited. Unless you know different. Apologise just realised you said they needed residence for one year before paying in, I was not aware that was a requirement, thought you could pay in immediately you were a resident. Thanks for clarifying it.

As I stated if you are under State Pension age you can only register for the Spanish Healthcare System after you have had your Residencia for a year, during that year you will have had to prove you had Private Health Insurance to have obtained your Residencia, after that year you can then buy into the Spanish Healthcare System, the benefits of doing this is that it is cheaper than Private Health Insurance and there are no exclusions for pre-existing conditions.

That is worth knowing, we are not resident at present but had our property for 12 years. Our friends paid into Valencian Health Care before they reached State Pension Age, but they never said you had to wait a year. Thank you very helpful advice

It might still be worth checking as the rules seem to change all the time and even differ in different regions.
