Hi all

We currently have a second home here and are considering applying for residencia.

We are in the fortunate position that we would not need to work but are under pensionable age.  Therefore is there any way to obtain access to the Spanish Healthcare system or do we just have to purchase PHI.

Any advice would be greatly welcomed

Thanks all 😃 ☀️

Sharon and Mike

You need PHI.

Then, after a year of Residency, you can buy into the Spanish NHS

All covered in Jim's Guides which are in a tab at the top of the page. Please do not private message Jim as he gets inundated so if you have any further questions, please ask them on the open forum as this may help others.

Thanks Ray

We are trying to obtain as much info as possible to then be able to make the most pertinent decision for us.

We understand our Spanish home would be our primary residence so would probably initially keep our UK home as a holiday home if this proved to be a viable option, or sell up and when visiting uk treat it as a holiday and Airbnb or suchlike.

Cheers for the info smile

Hi Paul

Yes definitely sharing info and experiences will be great.

We head back to the uk tomorrow and are going to use our 14 day quarantine to research and weigh up pros and cons

Good luck

Shar n Mike 😀

Take care about timing if you sell your UK home after moving here.

I understand that you could be liable for capital gains tax so please take advice.

Maybe consider renting out your UK home. This is what we do.

We pay tax on our UK rental property. We are registered in UK as non resident landlords. Rent is paid to us gross.

Declared on both Spanish and UK tax returns.

Spain allows first 60 per cent of long term rental income tax free.

So far we have not owed any more to HMRC, in fact got a refund from them last year.

Hi...

We are in the same position, trying to find when the healthcare stops under the EHIC card, for good.

So far, all I can find is negative...Would be grateful if you could keep us informed.

Many thanks and kind regards,

Just having a look at how we can pay a stamp type arrangement here in Spain.

Another way would be to start a small business but I've not the faintest idea how to do that. Just awaiting our TIE cards after we passed the interview in Alicante last week.
