We're using a taxi service from Murcia airport for the first time (usually hire a car) and want find out if tipping taxi drivers is the done thing. We've only been to Spain once before and never used taxis.

Personally I would do the same as you would in the UK. There are no fixed rules in Spain (as in most of europe) unlike the USA where it appears mandatory to tip everyone lol.

If you are happy with the driver and the service and the price seems OK for you then tip if you wish. I would always ask a price first before using any taxi, so you are not surprised at the end of the journey.

If your Spanish is not good and in case the driver doesn't speak English, then just use Google translate in advance and write down in Spanish what you need to know ie Can you give me the price to____ wherever you are going and show him the address too.

Hopefully he will write the price down if you give him a pen and paper. That's what I've done in the past as there's nothing worse than a driver saying the price in Spanish (they do appear to talk very quickly as we probably do to them in our language lol)

Hope this helps.
