Hi you could try giving it a fright on Halloween LOL other than that  treat it as normal but you can cut the running hours down I would suggest some research!

I don't personally bother over winter. Algal growth never stops with low water temperatures, but it slows down considerably. If there's no evidence of algae in your pool - greenish water, or what looks like mould growing in the grouting - then I wouldn't bother.

Shock chlorine (cloro choque) is fast acting chlorine. You give the pool a dose of that at regular intervals, leave the circulation running overnight, and it kills off any organic growth. Don't use the pool until the chlorine level is back to normal, or you'll end up with green or blonde hair.

If you use 3, 4, or 5 in 1 tablets for dosing your pool, I recommend that you don't use them in winter. Instead use some slow-release chlorine on its own. Using the multi-tablets all the time leads to an increase in cyanuric acid, which reduces the effectiveness of the chlorine. It's actually better to use a liquid chlorine compound but I'm lazy - I just throw in a few handfuls of slow-release granules.

By all means keep the pH level correct, but it doesn't matter if the chlorine level is too high when you're not using the pool.

If you use white plastic chairs outside, stick them in the pool over winter. It will help to make them look clean again.

Leave the circulation running, otherwise the pump might seize up, but you can reduce the time to about an hour a day.

And remember that if you're on dual-tariff electricity to run the pump during the low tariff hours.

Next question?!
