Hi there,

Can anyone tell me if the Pedreguer area (specifically Monte Solana) faces any problems with squatters?

Are there any experiences with this? And if so, what is done to prevent this, e.g. cooperation with policia local. Thanks for your considerations.

Dennis

Once spaqutter are inside, police can and will do nothing. Only the legal owner in person can request legal eviction from the corresponding court, and that can take months. So, keep your fingers crossed.

"cooperation with policia local"

What cooperation would you expect from the Police?

The Policia Local will not do anything to evict squatters. Home owners have to get a court order to evict squatters (which can go on for months and months) and if the squatters have small children the eviction could be terminated until a variety of agencies get involved. There is a problem with squatters all over Spain as the laws are often favorable towards them. I've been following a post on another expat forum from someone who has had squatters for 2 years and despite court orders still can't evict them. Its cost him a fortune so far. He wants to sell the property to rid him of the problems.

Check out the other thread regarding squatters.

We've been discussing the situation for a few days now and there are 55 posts on the subject. One forum member has already found that squatters have invaded his holiday home and is asking for advice/help.

I've tried my best but maybe others can provide him some advice.

There is another "Squatters" thread going on strong which might answer most of your questions:

Has anyone any experience of Squatters?

My petition:

Demand Spain Evict Squatters Within 24 hours Of Police Being Notified

Contact the Spanish PM and Minister Of Home Affairs demanding they amend their current laws regarding squatters. Their laws are biased towards squatters taking ownership of peoples properties and belongings leaving owners homeless and bereft of all their personal possessions sometimes for years.

Demand that the Spanish Police take immediate action when squatters are reported in an owners property. Evict them immediately if they have no written permission signed by the owner. Allow owners the option of cutting off all utilities rather than legally forcing them to pay for all the squatters usage. Currently Police will do nothing unless squatters are caught 'red-handed' . Eviction then has to go through the Spanish Court System which can sometimes take 1-4 years.

Hi Lee -  Yes , I don't see any reasons why not.

Remember that once we reach 21 signatures the system might not allow any more signatures for a temporary period .

Regards

Keith
