Hi everyone, we have decided to move to this area. We are very interested in Pego. Pro's and con's of living there please.

We are both retired, active, like to walk, interested in photography.

Thank in advance

Hello

Firstly, where are you moving from & do you have UK passports? The advice and rules for moving to Spain differ from UK/Eu countries

Cheers

Pego is a small working town with one or two nice historic buildings and a good paseo. It has three medium size supermarkets (Aldi, Mercadona, Masymas), a range of small shops, restaurants, cafes and a good health centre. The tennis club is very popular. Countryside roundabout is ideal for walkers - the d'Ebo and Gallinera valleys, plus the Marjal wetlands are close by. The beaches between Oliva and Denia are only 10 minutes drive, and the two towns plus Javea are all in striking distance. The motorway is close by and Valencia and Alicante airports are both just over an hour's drive. The ayuntimento offers free language classes in Castellano and Valenciano.

We like living here and I can't think of any drawbacks, but I'm biased!

I'd be happy to answer any specific questions too.

Hola,

We sold our flat in Javea and signed a six-month contract on a flat in Pego to go house-hunting, thinking it would be heaven after crazy Javea. If empty gloomy streets are your bag, come on down!

We've bought a house in Ondara now, as I was beginning to avoid going out it is so depressing here.

Another thorny issue is the gypsy population. The gigantic elephant in the room. Estate agents here keep shtumm about this. Be bold and just ask by EMAIL if there are gypsy families on the street or within 100m of the street you're interested in. House prices on certain streets will never go up because local Pegolinos will never buy there. We looked at a sweet house and I asked a local shopkeeper one day what she thought of that street and she said NO NO NO. So do your due diligence first. Visit the street you're interested in day and night and weekend. I did, and a person had their garage open and a massive speaker outside. I'd been told about that street but thought, 'racism'. When I heard the booming music I was glad we didn't go further. And it isn't San Blas either. It's another street near the chiringuito.

Pego is also a shlepp to the autovia and the N332. Up to you if driving a lot is not problematic. I love the Marjal, but I don't think the pros outweigh the cons. Hence the low house prices. I've also been told the mosquitoes in summer are terrible. A useful experience living here, but too cut off from more bustling cosmopolitan towns, and for a town with a population of 10,000, really dead and frankly gloomy.

I can't disagree with anything FCFradet has written.......... and I live in Pego!!

Different strokes for different folks.

I would never recommend that someone lives here.

I have a holiday home in Pego and absolutely love it. Plenty of bars and restaurants without being touristy. It really is a beautiful town, good value for money. I lived previously in Javea Port and I much prefer Pego. Don't be put off by negative comments.
