Yes, sorry to bring this up again, but me and my partner need to renew (like thousands of others, I presume). I want to make sure that I know exactly what option or options I can select from the drop down lists.

Some online advice I read said chose either:

POLICÍA-EXP.TARJETA ASOCIADA AL ACUERDO DE RETIRADA CIUDADANOS BRITÁNICOS Y SUS FAMILIARES (BREXIT)”

or if that is not available, select:

TOMA DE HUELLA (EXPEDICIÓN DE TARJETA) RENOVACIÓN DE TARJETA DE LARGA DURACIÓN Y DUPLICADO”

Neither of those is available on the drop downs I'm looking at, but this one is:

POLICIA - TOMA DE HUELLAS (EXPEDITION DE TARJETA) INICIAL, RENOVACION, DUPLICADO Y LEY 14/2013

So my question is, can I select the last one, or is that incorrect and therefore I have to wait until one of the first two options appears?

Depends if your residency was part of the withdrawal agreement or not.

If protected under the withdrawal agreement,

Check the drop down lists and select the option “POLICÍA-EXP.TARJETA ASOCIADA AL ACUERDO DE RETIRADA CIUDADANOS BRITÁNICOS Y SUS FAMILIARES (BREXIT)”

If this option doesn’t exist then select “TOMA DE HUELLA (EXPEDICIÓN DE TARJETA) RENOVACIÓN DE TARJETA DE LARGA DURACIÓN Y DUPLICADO”

For those under the withdrawal agreement, you can renew 30 days before the card expires and up to 90 days afterwards but most departments are not accepting updates until the card itself actually expires and are rejecting early requests. This is done using the EX23 form.

If not under the protected withdrawal agreement than the form EX17 is used and can be applied for 60 days before expiry but, again, check the department if they will do it early. That is done selecting the "POLICIA-TOMA DE HUELLAS (EXPEDICIÓN DE TARJETA)" option,

Thanks Marcliff. Yes we are covered by the withdrawal agreement, so I'll just have to wait until one of the first two options appears in the drop downs.

I've been through every location in Alicante and none of them is currently offering those two.

I think marcliff may have muddied the waters here.

As a Brit under the WA the option for a straight forward renewal “TOMA DE HUELLA (EXPEDICIÓN DE TARJETA) RENOVACIÓN DE TARJETA DE LARGA DURACIÓN Y DUPLICADO” is what you need, nothing else, and is only offered by certain policia national stations. That will not change so apart from your TIE expiry date there is nothing to 'wait' for.

You can make an appointment for whenever date may pop up as available so long as it's NOT prior to your TIE expiry.

So are you saying I could select the third option to get an appointment, the one that ends "Y LEY 14/2013"?

Your answer is critical, because this is the only option which appears.

I think it's time to bite the bullet and pay someone to do it for you. Probably goes against the grain but would probably be the best option.

No mate, I'm not going to pay someone, it's a simple process, I just need to know which drop down option is going to generate an appointment where I don't turn up with all the paperwork, only to be told, sorry we can't process you because you selected the wrong initial option.

Good for you, it really isn't so hard!

https://ageinspain.org/renewing-your-tie-uk-withdrawal-agreement-protected-residents/

Not sure if or where “POLICÍA-EXP.TARJETA ASOCIADA AL ACUERDO DE RETIRADA CIUDADANOS BRITÁNICOS Y SUS FAMILIARES (BREXIT)” may be an option in the Alicante region but no matter, stick with "TOMA DE HUELLA" which is definitely correct.

Did our own renewals BTW so know for fact!

Thank you, Darro, but you still haven't answered my specific question.

Will the third option, the one ending in "..Y LEY 14/2013" work?

Yes, no, or you don't know?

I'm going to answer my own question because I've learnt more, and some people might need the information.

Yes, you can select the third option to get an appointment for TIE renewal. However, across the province, there are currently no appointments available, but hopefully that situation changes from day to day.

I've also read that if you submit an application before your card has expired, you will likely have your application rejected and you'll have to start again. This is not hearsay, the writer gave solid administrative reasons for why this is so. Take note.
