Hello Forum

As i am new to Spanish car ownership, i would like some advise on whether my car will pass its ITV if the "airbag warning light" is flashing.

I would guess the answer is "No" and therefore if i take it for a Pre-ITV, will the garage be able to reset it as well as check all other aspects of the ITV.

thanks in advance for any info, its all a bit scary taking the car for its test for the first time since moving here.

It will fail with the airbag light on, you will need to take the car to be repaired before the ITV. As Peteknight said you can take the car in for ITV a month before the due date and have any issues highlighted.

Many moons ago I worked at a garage that did MOT's & whenever asked for a pre MOT check we always advised to just put it in for MOT as the cost would be the same & if it passed you'd only pay for the MOT, saving the cost of the pre MOT check, but the issues would be highlighted.

The good thing here is the ITV station can't repair your car, so it has no financial interest if the car passes or fails.

thank you for the info.

I guessed that would be the answer so i will have to get it sorted.

Can you recommend a nearby garage that could help with this issue?

A faulty air bag is a potentially serious issue which should have been attended to immediately the light came on not now and simply because the test is coming up.

Unlikely I grant but for all you know the fault could mean that the airbag is at risk of going off without notice and imagine that happening at 120kmh on the motorway!

Ditto all faults, a car should be maintained in a safe and fully roadworthy at ALL times not just on test day.

I will be a condition of insurance too so if you had an accident and it could be proved that you were driving with a known fault or faults you insurer would be perfectly entitled to refute your claim and claw back from you personally any money they had paid out to 3rd parties so the price of ignoring a warning could be very high indeed.

Pop it into Nissan at Elda, they should be able to tell you quite quickly where the issue is.
