Hi All

Martin & Matt here from Ireland.  We wish to make contact with others already living in Petrer or Elda.  We intend to purchase a property, preferable in Petrer, hopefully as soon as it is possible.   We would love to connect with others living in the general are of Petrer / Elda in the hope their knowledge and experience of these areas will help us with our new life there.  We look forward to hearing from you.

Thanking you in advance.

Martin & Matt (MnM)

I don't know Petrer but have lived in Spain for 15 years.   Have you found out about the new rules and regulations regarding moving to Spain as the UK is now classed as a Third Country?      I would suggest that you have a look at the Citizens Advice Bureau Spain website for such things, as well as the Tips and Guides on this site, and the N332 website for anything to do with driving in Spain.

Hi Golandrina,

Ireland is not part of the UK.

Kind Regards

I do realise that the southern part is not but the northern part is and, as I was not aware as to which part you were referring, I thought that I would provide information that may be relevant.

I didn't mean to offend!

Hello MnM 😁

With the freezing cold weather and lockdown in Ireland at present, it certainly is lovely to be thinking about moving to Spain.  I don’t know Peter area but if you enter your query into above search bar you are sure to find results.

However there are some things that you will need to fully research.   Costs are a factor for many.

Keep your dream.  Just use this difficult time to research and visit for an extended time when you can.

Rent yes.   Enjoy finding out about life in the area you wish to live in.

All below are payable regardless of how often you can visit your property.

Taxes... two types for NON resident home owners.

Bank fees annual usually over €100

House Insurance

Community Fees ( if applicable)

Standing charges on Electricity, Gas, Water.

Private Health Insurance which does not cover pre existing conditions.  (If age is under 66)  Required if you want to live full time and become residents.

Internet/TV monthly

Cost of owning a car. (If applicable)

Difficult to obtain a licence to legally rent out your property.   Many waiting over a year and only available in certain locations.

People seem shocked by the cost of above charges as every day on this forum people are posting about the costs and wondering how to have them reduced.

Do not give up your plans, just remember it’s not inexpensive.

Best wishes

Maria 😎

Sorry Golandrina,  yes the whole thing can be confusing even to those of us in the middle of it all 😂

Thanks for helpful info.

Best wishes

Hi Gloandrina; thank you for replying to my post, we always appreciate people taking the time from their day to reply.  We are familiar with some of the links you referenced.  We will continue to navigate the mind-field of Covid-19, like so many people in so many different countries.

Thanks again.

Hi Maria, again, a massive thank you for replying to our post and for all the data you provided.  We are doing all of what you suggest, researching and have also engaged an Abogado in Alicante, working on obtaining our NIEs at present through the Spanish consulate in Ireland.  It keeps us focused to have things to work on.  We know we will be living in Petrer/Elda later in 2021, much work to do.

Thanks again

I agree Maria with your post to Golandrina, it can all be very confusing.  I do recall previous posts asking people to identify their location, I should have said Republic of Ireland and not just Ireland, which could lead to confusion; nonetheless, we appreciate people taking time to help others on the forum.  The forum has been a great source of information and encouragement in our work in getting to Spain.

Looking forward to reading more posts.

Irrespective if your northern Irish or from the Irish republic you are entitled to hold an Irish passport whatever jurisdiction you reside in, therefore the 3rd country rule will not apply.

Good luck M&M with the proposed move and please keep us updated.
