I have two upcoming flights from East Midlands to Alicante with Ryanair.  Each way I have a reserved seat and Priority Boarding.

They have cancelled the return flight so booked me on a flight day earlier. This will make my break too short so I went on line to move it back a couple of days. I am of course expecting to pay the difference in seat prices, which is fair enough but no change fee as it’s only been booked a few weeks.

What shocked me was Ryanair charge you again for priority boarding. I went on line to complain and was told when I first booked it is classed as a special offer which you don’t get when you rebook so they tried to charge me another €10 so ineffect I have paid €20 for priority boarding. If I try and book a new flight the cost is just €10.

Ryanair won’t see sense.  I could of course take the refund (which I will get eventually) and book a new flight with just a €10 priority boarding cost. But that seems mad to me. Apparently it’s in their terms and conditions!!!

I have tried calling to see if someone will take a sensible approach but you can’t even join a queue on the phone. Does anyone have any experience of making Ryanair see common sense? I am happy to pay the difference in seat price.

My wife has been travelling back and forth with Ryanair, the only problem is they keep moving the flight times, mainly earlier ones, this causes problems with getting to and from the airport, Alicante or Stansted as she does not drive and has to rely on lifts or public transport especially now the bus schedule to and from airports have been reduced, so definitely at one time in the near future, she will have to get a taxi costing roughly 60 Euro! Unless I hire a car for and make use of it for 2/3 days for roughly the price of a taxi, but what puts the price up is the excess insurance cover, The flights only cost 10 Euro! As for paying for priority she does not take that option, so far so good though as she has always arrived on the day intended, but sometimes at awkward times, still count your blessings that they are still flying and in these times I would think there might be more to come! Good luck in whatever you decide, but make sure you stay safe and healthy, what’s the saying money can’t buy your health or happiness.

Yes I moved an october flight as we cannot take more time off work for quarantine, they charged me an extra 27.30 . £20 for the priority and 7.30 for the extra flight cost. I booked flights at £67.00 the new flights were advertised at 37€! The chat line could not understand why I questioned it!

Good Old Ryanair.  When it works, brilliant, at times like this, not so much. How on earth did you manage to get online to complain, or do you mean the chatbot?  I have not been able to find an email address for them, and have spent hours in the phone queue.  From what I've heard, as the other poster said the flights are nowhere near full, and my experience of priority boarding anyway is that they sometimes make everyone wait outside before they release them for boarding, and it can then be a stampede, priority passengers all but forgotten.

I am definitley going to try Jet2 next time, they are more expensive, but have come out of this pandemic way ahead of Ryanair on customer service so far.

Thanks for your reply. The phone system wouldn’t even let me join a queue.

On the chat bot I put speak to adviser and eventually after 35 minutes someone joined.

As it happens I have no problem with Ryanair generally - you pay for what you get. Where I do have a problem is when they try and treat you unfairly or impose hidden charges.
