Can anyone tell me why there are so many aggresive flies that keep landing on me (not just one but many). They are brown in colour with a small white or cream colouring). They don't seem to bite but get everywhere. Does anyone know of a natural repellent or insect repellent that will repel them?

Thank you.

Julia

Any chemist should be able to sell you an insect repellent.

When I was doing serious walking in Scotland, I used to use one based on citronella oil. It worked fine in that although the flies and midges were still around me, they didn't land on my skin. However, I didn't like the smell.

Other walkers have told me that they used various essential oils - lemongrass, lavender, peppermint, eucalyptus, sometimes in a combination. I never tried them, but I'm sure the smell would be better than citronella. One guy I met when walking the West Highland Way had a (wilted!) bunch of basil which he rubbed on his skin, and which he said was very effective.

Can you put this lotion on with sun protection cream? Does it react with the sun?
