Just wondering about all those 60s to 80s you mention that have been here for years, did they ever get their residency and healthcare etc in order ? Just because they have access to health care and a pension it doesn't mean they want to stay

Obviously.. but I was "just wondering" if all those people who "were" leaving (possibly 1000's as mentioned in an another post), had obtained their residency.   It was a rhetorical question.

I think that many of us seniors are worried about ill health and not having family/ good neighbors to look after us as is the Spanish way, not saying UK is much better but at least you can throw your selves on the mercy of family etc. My family want us to return as they worry that they can't help us from  afar should we need it. We are holding out here for as long as possible.. happy with the health care etc and cost of living., The council tax in the UK would be more than our fuel bills, SUMA here for a year.

In the North West of England the supermarket are full there's no one queuing for petrol don't believe everything you read in the newspapers as it's clickbait

My Daughter lives in Sussex and they are feeling the petrol shortages and although she hates doing fills up on a Friday, the queues can be anything up to an hour. She doesn’t have time during the week because of work. As for the shopping, she’s found a vast difference in what she can buy as so many of the items she normally buys are often out of stock. She always bought on line, but was sick of having to go shopping to get the things that weren’t delivered.

Since the deadline for registering for residency I have know quite a few couples and singles that went back to the UK because they couldn't meet the residency requirements, some that had been living here years either couldn't be bothered or even thought it wouldn't apply to them.

I am getting on a bit and not in the best of health but the healthcare service in Spain is excellent but the aftercare is the responsibility of the patient to arrange. I would not go back to the UK if I was ill and put the burden on family and friends but arrange for carers to attend daily to suit my needs. Spain is more of a caring country in my opinion and along with the social, weather and better standard of living I can't believe that anyone who has lived here legally with residency and healthcare cover would go back to the UK.

As far as I know there are no requirements if you just want to return. There are huge problems, however, if you will need to claim benefits there. You can only claim once you've satisfied the habitual residence test. I know of lots of people who believed the right wing rhetoric about how easy it is to claim benefits in the UK. They soon found out it's not that easy when you're a person who has come from abroad.

It's also not that easy to find housing, unless you can afford to buy or rent privately.

Fortunately  for me I've not taken out residency  ,also I never swallowed  the propaganda  given out by the tories from yesteryear of people lying in bed watching   large tvs who were doing very nicely on benefits  while people like me went to work ,and it was less likely believable of Johnsons levelling up manifesto

Congratulations on giving an unbiased view of Spain  ,I think there are too many on here who are blinded by the sunshine in Spain and many appear to be very bitter regarding the UK leaving EU ,this maybe down to the fact that many have been forced into residency  when prior to 1st Janua...

...ry  they could come and go as they pleased ,there are faults in every country ,some with more than others and regards settling in a foreign land it's not one size fits all

We voted to stay  no to Brexit although we now live in Spain.  5 years here 4.5 years as residents uk has nothing to offer the young now it’s dying . In Liverpool where I am from we did more business and had more support from Europe than our own government , thanks to the hard work of our own Liverpool people, chamber of commerce and our local companies  Liverpool is thriving yes we shave poor areas yes we have unemployment and food banks but much more now with Johnson’s government then we have ever had . Would I go back to live in uk never !!
