Hi,

Does anyone have any opinions (good or bad) on life in and around Pilar de la Horadada.

We have seen a property that we like but have never thought to take a look around that area before.

We are thinking that it might be more 'Spanish' than the areas that we have been looking at, which isn't necessarily a problem but we would like there to be a mixture of nationalities until we can improve on our Spanish.

We are also looking for somewhere that is fairly flat (for later life) and somewhere that doesn't completely close down in the winter.

Does P. D. L. H. tick any of these boxes?

Thanks,

John & Sarah

PDLH is generally flat. It has a really good range of shops, supermarkets, hotels, banks, DIY shops, car sales/repairs, petrol stations, restaurants etc., everything a busy town would have. There are gestors/solicitors there to sort out your legal stuff. There is a weekly market. There is a cinema that occasionally shows films in English.

The traffic/parking can be a bit tight at times, but most of the facilities are walkable if you live near the centre of the town (Calle Mayor).

You can cycle to the nearest beach (a safe route was recently constructed over the motorway). This route is mostly flat.

The town is Spanish, but there are other nationalities there. You can get by with minimal Spanish.

The town is busy all year round.

There is a fair range of housing/flats available. For example, a large 3-bedroom flat overlooking the grassed barranco, and 10 minutes' walk from the town centre (Calle Mayor) is listed at 86k Euros. There is a range of new-build housing going up, again 10 minutes' walk from the town centre (Calle Mayor). There aren't any "villas" with big plots (e.g. 1000 square metres). I don't think many houses have "a view". But beware - some of the new builds are quite a distance out of town - not walkable to Calle Mayor, and they have no nearby services - so check carefully on distances before committing to anything.

The town has excellent motorway connections and a bus station (with buses up/down the coast, including Alicante Airport). There is no train. The town is NOT a Brit enclave urbanisation, It is a fully functional working town, with a Town Hall, Post Office and Tax Office (SUMA). My wife and I live a few km away, and we go there most weeks.

This town is well worth a look. You need to see it and walk around it to appreciate it.

I think we probably need to check it out when we are in the area the next time.

Hi, I have lived in Torre de la Horadada which is part of Pilar de la Horadada for 20 years and would never want to leave. It has everything one could wish for, by far the best place to live. A good mixture of Spanish and English. Flat as a pancake and the whole area is as clean as a whistle. What else could you wish for?

Thanks for your very detailed reply it is much appreciated.

Hi,

We bought a house in November in MILS PALMERAS.... the beach side of Pilar town and a few kilometres from Torre de la Horadada on the advice of a friend. She has lived here for quite a few years.

The Urbanización is called Rio Mar ( ours is Rio Mar IV) but I think they go up to XII. Calm and peaceful here with a beautiful pool on Rio Mar IV... we love it. A mix of different nationalities.

Good luck with ur search!

Pilar is a good place to live, we live in Torre which is beach side from Pilar.

Been here 20 years.

Previous comments are informing you well.

It's a really nice area, great medical facilities  24/7.

Lots of nationalities, my calle has Spanish, German, French & English, everyone gets along.

It's a good place.

All the best in your search.

Thanks,

We need to check out that area also.

We thought we had found the area we liked the best (playa flamenca/la zenia/cabo roig) but have maybe too blinkered in our search.
