Hi - i am looking to retire to Spain in 6 months time.  The only place i have been to is Benidorm.  My sister has just gone to live there and so this is where i was going to find a property to rent.  My only reservation is that i find the new town too much with the stag and hen dos and i know there are lovely areas around Benidorm, but i have never been to Pilar de la Horadada or anywhere that side of Alicante.  I would just love somewhere that is fairly busy (not on Benidorm scale), good ex pat community with nice walks etc.  What does anyone recommend for a single something who is 60 ish, but very young at heart.  Thanks

Thanks Pete that is really helpful. Thank you.  I am coming to Spain in September so will take a look around that area.  I did think i wanted somewhere quiet, but i went to Majorca on my own last year (for a change from Benidorm) and hated it.  Really quiet.....mainly couples.  Felt out of place to be honest.

So i went to Benidorm yet again.

Do you think torrevieja would be too lively.....i do drive, but i dont think i will be getting a car when i am there.  Will have lots of time to explore and thinking about getting a small dog.  I need somewhere on a good bus or tram route.  I love walking for miles along the promenade too so somewhere that has good walking.

There is a Facebook group “Ladies of Spain” with members all over Spain but it is particularly active in Torreviega and the surrounding Costa Blanca south area (including Villemartin, Quesada, Catral & La Marina) with lunches, dinners , teas and coffee mornings in various locations.   Excellent way to meet other ladies.

Hello Susie 13....

I absolutely know your worries. My partner and I, (me late 50's, him, just turned 60) moved here,

La Florida, Orihuela, costa just over 3 yrs ago. Partner has fitted in just great.  Me not so much.

The reason for my post to you is this;

If you want help to visit areas, that I suggest you look into, via Google, and if you just want to

visit an area, before visiting properties, we would like to assist you. We are both retired and not

aligned with any estate agency  but would just like to help you.

Send me a PM, if you think we could be of help.

Regards,

JAOBM.

Hi Susie

I bought a place in El Galan last year outside Villamartin.  You mentioned Torrevieja nice town but l stayed therea few times & was lonely.  Personal opinion lovely place to visit but busy working town people didn’t have time to talk.  2nd visit took my son who made me look elsewhere.  There are urbanisations but the properties were small & very close together.  So next visit took a trip to Villamartin area.  The plaza itself gets very noisy in summer which you would expect so I looked at the areas around.  Found El Galan about 25 mins walk from Villamartin maybe too quite for you nice people a few bars & restaurants, with Mercandona down the road all walkable.  If you want lively the area around the Saturday market may be better it’s near La Zenia Boulevarde.  To be honest I’ve found everyone here to be friendly & not felt out of place anywhere.  There are groups you can join. Really nice people & I’m sure you would make some good friends.

Hope what every you decide it works out well.

Hi Susie

It’s Ellie again, spooky but I stayed with Laurie & Mag’s when I came over to takeover the keys to my property.

I was on my own &  it was a big step for me.  They were lovely I had a late flight but they arranged collection from the airport & were up to greet me on arrival.  The whole place was spotlessly clean & had all creature comforts.

Lovely couple lots of knowledge would be a good starting point.

And no not on commission 😀
