Are biting flies and mosquitoes a problem in Campoverde due to the amount of trees and surrounding orange groves?

We've lived here 20 months. Last year we both got quite a few mosquito bites but they don't bother me this year (I do use soltan protect and repel). They still like my husband though. We've not had a problem with biting flies

I am normally bitten alive by mosquitos but this year tried nenuco  and aqua de colonia from mercadona(€1.85 for huge bottle). Lemon smelling and I just soaked a facecloth in it and wiped down my arms and legs and avoided getting bitten. If I missed a spot and did get bitten I just put this on after and it took itch and swelling away-my cheapest answer yet as I’ve used deet etc with poorer results.

Hope this helps

Mozzies love standing water and there are balsas (open water reservoirs) everywhere. The closer to the water table you are, the worse it will be but anywhere you go here you will find mozzies so it will always be a case of nets, screens, creams and sprays. I never venture out without Avon Skin So Soft, especially in the evenings.

Thank you very much. Given these answers I am beginning to reconsider if this area is suitable to buy a Villa. I am very prone to insect bites.

Don’t let it put you off-I went to Egypt and literally had to get of plane on returning home and go to doctor I had so many bites so understand your fear but the mosquitoes are really only there July and August and I got about 4 bites the whole of August using the Agua de colonia

I stand to be corrected here, but unless you want to buy a holiday home in the Arctic then mozzies are going to be a fact of life. This is a beautiful area of the world with so many benefits, especially health-wise. Hopefully you wouldn´t go out in the sun without sunscreen so just use one with an insect repellent. My daughter got bitten much more in the UK this summer than I did, because I was armed. It´s not all year round anyway, but we have screens on all windows, doors and around the outside terrace and Avon Skin so Soft (other products are available) which I believe is also used by the British Armed Services and for our Scots friends against midges.

So it doesn´t come as a huge surprise, we also have snakes, scorpions, spiders, massive biting centipedes and processionary caterpillars, much like other Mediterranean countries, but most of us manage to survive!
All the best.

Just to add to all the other comments. We moved into our villa in march and we are surrounded by trees and greenery. There are mozzies about but like everyone has said, just make sure you take every precaution to stop the little blighters biting you! When sitting outside I use citronella candles , incense sticks and anti mozzy body sprays. There's also something called Espirales Antimosquitos that are like spiral incense burners that burn for a long time, available from most supermarkets and very cheap. Invest in mozzy screens for doors and windows as they stop any bugs from getting in. Can honestly say it's not been a major problem, although hubby gets bitten more than me. It would be a shame if the thought of mozzies put you off buying in Campoverde as it's a little piece of heaven!
