Hi just asking for some advice we have a house in new part campoverde, we are bringing our dog over in October and our vets suggested we have him inoculated forLeishmania disease ,we have never heard of this before, has anybody else had thier dog done it’s three injections at over £50 each , some people say it depends on the area you live in . Hi

We don’t live here full time but have always brought our dog with us since 2007 and have always used Scalibor Collar which lasts up to 6 months. If you are thinking of having the inoculation maybe start off with the Scalibor Collar and once your dog is here, go to a vet in Spain, as they are usually a lot cheaper than vets in the U.K. I would suggest if you haven’t already, that you google ‘leishmaniasis’ and Scalibor Collar to give you a bit more information.

Have a look for the Collar online cheaper than the vets they come in 2 sizes s/m 48 cm & L 65 cm,they can be cut to size. Don’t forget heartworm, once again you can give tablets or get an inoculation here in Spain. Maybe do the same, tablets to start with and then decide.

Just to add to this, we bought our staffy over from Uk and had never heard of leichmans either. I got a job with an animal charity and they told me all about it so we took pooch and had him vaccinated, think it cost 60€. We had the one injection.I think if you register with a vet here the meds are a bit cheaper. We use Moby Dicks in pilar but the vets in town are as good and a lot closer!

Hi, i read your article with interest as we have had both our rescue dogs treated for leichmans but we haven't got them collars. I looked at the collars on Tiendanimal ( hadn't heard of that, great site thank you!) and they say they only protect against fleas and ticks. Are they the same collars or do I need to look at something else? Thanks in advance.
