Hi, Wondering if there are recommendations for places where we can give our dogs a quick walk and break on the drive down from Bilbao Ferry. We will be keeping to Motorways where possible but assume there are services we can stop at?

Thanks 😊

On the drive from Cherbourg to La Zenia we found that most Service Stations on the Motorways had park / picnic areas that were great for walking our dog and letting him do his business, also broke the journey up with overnights at pet friendly Hotels, meant we got our got to dog to Spain stress free.

Check the Via Michelin Website for a detailed route map, including service stations, toll etc, if necessary then calculate how far you want to drive in a day and then Google for pet friendly Hotels in the nearest town. When we did it a couple of years ago it turned into a mini holiday.

We did this drive last December, sticking to motorways too. There were plenty of service stations along the route to stop to give the dogs (and me) a break. I think we only stopped 3 or 4 times, every couple of hours. There's no need to worry, or plan your stops there are more than enough places to pull over.

Enjoy the drive, there are some amazing views on the way. After driving in the UK it's an absolute pleasure to drive here, the only time we had to slow down was when we stopped to let the dogs out.

Thanks! That’s good to know. Looking forward to the journey. Heard it takes about 9 hours so maybe a bit more for breaks.

Thank you!

We are going to take it nice and easy and looking forward to it. We will stop off regularly- one of our dogs is not a good traveller. Wish us luck 😂

When are you travelling? It took us around eight hours, that was sticking to the speed limits, just put the cruise control and sit back and enjoy the world going past.

Good luck.

We arrive Bilbao 10/10. Good to know the motorways are pretty clear-will make lovely change from endless roadworks and bumper to bumper on M1 etc.

Noticed roads weren’t busy when last in PDC. Only traffic we found was round Torrevieja round rush hour!

👍

The worst part for us was Murcia, we were warned about Madrid but followed the sat nav & skirted round the edge with no issues.

Oh yes, the N332 by Torrevieja can be a nightmare, still nowhere as bad the M1 is on a good day.
