Hi
What is the exchange rate at banks or other currency exchange shops if I want to buy euros with £sterling? is it better than €1.12 per £1?

Have always found that the Halifax Clarity card is the most economic way of £/Euro exchange.
I have recently acquired one of these and it’s great, however, I have never drawn cash on it. Is it ok doing this barwick19?

Try Revolut.com a card where you can fill with pounds and transfer to euros etc and get better than bank rates of exchange

Yes, but always in the local currency, never use the £Sterling option, you will get a conversion charge.

If you use Halifax Clarity for cash, and the Nationwide credit card for purchases you won't go far wrong, but always select Euros for currency option, otherwise you will get a £/Euro conversion charge.
