Hello

I always hire a car via doyouspain. This time i see Gold car hire prices are  very competitive but non refundable. I have a UK car insurance  policy to cover hire cars in Spain so don't take the car rental company insurance.  Do Gold force you to take their insurance? I am wondering if that is how they make a profit given the low rental costs.

Thank you

AVJL

Only two options with Goldcar

1. Refuse their insurance and put 1200e deposit on your CC.

2. Or buy their own insurance.

Like you I have a UK insurance policy. They give you all the scare tactics just refuse and let them put the deposit on your card.

The previous post covers it.

Be warned... the tactic I was faced with from Goldcar was that they give you a blank form for the car damage, they did not even bother to highlight any existing damage. Their plan is that you dont think about it then they hit you with a massive repair bill!

So, I spent an hour going over the car. I took photos and video of the diabolical condition. They gave me a dark coloured vehicle and it was in a very poorly lit area of the car park. (I noticed the Spainsh got light coloured vehicles in much better condition!)

I put so much red pen on their form it was untrue!

Then their representative came to inspect... their NEXT ploy is that they transfer all your information on to another form and hand it back to you. This was NOT the same, nor was it a carbon copy. It missed problems I had identified. So, I pointed them out and I showed him that I had already taken a photo of the version I had given him.

Finally, dont forget to check all locks with the key NOT just the remote. Then make sure you have a high vis jacket and triangle.

Dont let my feedback put you off. Forewarned is forearmed. Beat them at their own games!

Hope it helps

Angela, please do not be fooled, they are all alike in the main. Of course, people will have good and bad experiences with all providers.

My advice would be to use TripAdvisor and search the rental name and read the reviews, taking most with a pinch of salt, but note the common complaints and make sure you don't fall into the same trap. Allow yourself an hour when collecting your vehicle for your own checks. (I know - it seems excessive but not as excessive as the repair charges!)

The only defence you have is to be thorough and diligent

Hope it helps

Sorry I found do you Spain a absolute rip of,they only put you up for cheap nasty car hire firms that are not the cheapest after they put on their high cost extras, and you do have to have their insurance or pay 1200 euros deposit, and if you have any sort of accident wether your fault or others, you have the money taken from your 1200 deposit.

So my advise is stick to the better companies.
