Campoverde - Speed Limits

(The Speed Limits have changed throughout Spain as of 1 January 2021 but become enforceable as of May 2021)

Two or more lanes of traffic per direction    50km/h

One lane of traffic per direction                    30km/h

One-Way street with pavement                     20km/h

Cars and motorcycles may not exceed the speed limits by more than 20 kilometres per hour when overtaking other vehicles (or cyclists!)

ALSO
No use of mobile phones at the wheel
No carrying of Radar Detectors (even if switched off!)

Nasty fines for anyone caught!

I think that most people realise the need for a reduction in the speed limits in certain areas, but these new restrictions do seem rather draconian, and ill thought out. One cap certainly won't fit all.

From what I have seen an awful lot of Spanish drivers are very impatient and aggressive behind the wheel.

Will be very interesting to see its implementation, but more so its impact.

Does the new limits apply.to cyclists? If not, they will overtake cars on 20kmp lanes, especially those who ride in groups.. 20 kmp is virtually impossible and dangerous, been practicing but have stalled twice and cannot get out of second gear, dreading next week, need to drive as not living in a pueblo.....

I’m a bit confused as to what constitutes ‘Urban’? As the road signs are unlikely to change any time soon, I’m afraid of either incorrectly assessing an area as urban or not, then either exceeding the speed limit, or driving too slowly.I know driving ‘in town’ will be obvious, what about roads run through and join urbanisations, or CV roads? I’d hate to get caught out.

I also want some clarity on which roads are 50, and have scoured the Internet without success. Does anyone know?

Strictly speaking, this change in the law became 'official' on 1st Jan 2021.

The local councils were given the time until 12 May to make the necessary changes to the road signs.

So, if you obey the road signs you should(?) be OK.

The cv 912 between Almoradi to Rafal road has so many different limits from 90 kph -30kph, changing every few yards, it is a two lane road, no kerbs, so will it be all 50 kph or 20 kph? When groups of cyclists are on it, they cycle very fast and sometimes are in twos or three across the carriage way. Will they be able to overtake us poor motorists? I can envisage many ‘ shunts’, especially with the lower limits....I think we will invest in a car camera......

You have given a good example of why we are all confused. It is going to be hard to obey the rules without them being made much clearer.🤨

What is classed as urban and non urban. How are we supposed to know? No new speed signs going up!
