Where to buy a car?

Having recently moved to Campoverde, we now find ourselves looking for a new car. Where to start? As in the UK, I'm sure there are good and bad dealers and we are obviously wary about who to approach. Has anyone had any dealings with decent, genuine car dealers, that they would happily recommend? I'm not sure at the moment whether we will be buying new or second hand, but any feedback at all would be much appreciated.

Many thanks,

Richard

Hi Richard,

There are a lot of second-hand car dealers around, but cars hold their price in Spain and, ultimately, buying new seemed to me to be better value for money.  Also, whilst I read about plenty of bad experiences with second-hand car dealers, I couldn't get any recommendations for good ones, which may tell a story in itself.

I think part of the problem with buying second-hand here is that British people aren't aware of how the process for transfer of ownership in Spain varies from the UK.  The process is more complex and the onus does not sit solely with the seller.  I've seen a very good explanation of the seller's responsibilities in Spain, but have yet to find a description of the actions required of the buyer.  I couldn't find a "Jim's Guide" on this, so if anyone knows the buyer's part of the process, please advise!

Kind regards,

Kim

We bought a second hand car when we first came out to Spain from Auto Roig, either side of the N332 roundabout in Cabo Roig where James is located, all the paperwork done for you ( ITV, help with arranging insurance, change of ownership ), car serviced, warranty. Great service and would recommend.

Hi Richard

I used Britannia Legals in Campoverde to handle a change of ownership, when I bought a car second-hand.

I photographed the car's documents and sent them to Britannia. They confirmed that the documents were OK before I parted with any money.
