If you receive treatment using an EHIC card the cost is repaid to the country you are treated in by your resident country, so the Spanish health system could actually benefit from treating illegals, as I'm sure the claim they make will have some sort of profit factored in.

In many cases those here illegally are contributing to the economy with their spending and may well have holiday homes paying local taxes etc.

So your problem is clearly with their national origins and background then? Even if they are French-Syrian, for example?

Ray, let me (Bob) throw some light on my previous post which you so strongly disagree with, i have heard quite a few different estimates for the British population in Spain, the most common appears to be there are around 300000 registered & legal and around 400000 to 500000 here illegally, as you keep saying (never applied for residency), in other words they are living here outwith the law as it stands.

So where do these 400000 illegal Brits live,  possibly half own houses here, the rest rent.

So lets assume Spain comes down hard on these 400000 Brits and kicks them out, lets assume 2 Brits per house / apartment that equates to 100000 bought houses and 100000 rented houses, what do you think would happen if these houses were put up for sale and the rented houses were handed back, let me help you out, the Spanish housing market around the Costa's would collapse, the rental market would collapse with mass bankruptcy of owners that cannot fill there rental houses.

There would be a run on the banks with Brits shifting money back to the UK or onto a friendlier country, local businesses would suffer, those Abogados that charge 100 euros for 10 minutes work filling in NIEs would suffer, estate agents, garages, petrol stations etc etc.

The above is before we even start to factor in what these 400000 pay/ spend in electric, gas, rent, bars, supermarkets etc etc.

We quite obviously have very different opinions, it will be interesting to see how this plays out, though offcourse we could factor in where the euro will be if the likes of Italy leave the EU but i will leave that for another day.

Ray, I am not justifying anything, only quoting figures that have been bandied about in the media, also from what I have seen the vast majority are older retired age so not sure they would be paying anything like two thousand euto in tax.

My thoughts are that Spain may well ease residency requirements and many will be tempted but many will not, as I said it will be fun watching this lay out.

Once again you state that brexiteers want to stop all imigrtation, you must listen to the BBC to much because they are one of the culprits pushing this fake news.

I don't understand how brexit will stop people from working illegally, there are plenty of non European people working in Spain illegally, and with no boarder control in Schengen area the 90 days will be difficult to police. Not defending anyone just making a point.

So will all EU Schengen zone countries electronic boarder controls be linked, I doubt it. Passports are unlikely to be stamped when they have spent thousands on automated controls.

Ray, you seem to be dismissing the fact that each couple resident or not spends a minimum of 1000 euro per month / 12000 euro per year to live here, losing half the non resident Brits far outweighs any benefit gained from taxing pensioners, certainly it will not compensate for the hit the economy will take in housing, services, shops etc etc.

As i mentioned in my previous post, and its my thoughts only, Spain will offer non resident Brits some sort of deal to stay, they cannot afford to lose them.

Its a bit like our UK numpty politicians that make idiotic remarks such as we need immigration to boost our aging population so they can pay for pensions in the future, sounds like a Ponzi scheme to me but sure our illustrious UK politicians know best (that was sarcasm)

They weren't stamping passports the day before the March deadline to leave, I know as I traveled then.
