As I’ve said before I intend to come to Spain in 2 years when I have 2 pensions. If I am unable to get residency because the new limit of net income is too high after Brexit, someone reminded me that you can live in Spain for 90 days then must leave the country fir a short period! Can anyone in...

...form me how long that period is as this may be my only way round it?

If Brexit goes ahead, you will be able to be in the EU for 90 days in any 180.

So 3 months in the EU, then 3 months back in the UK (or somewhere else outside of the EU).

Someone else may be able to advise on any longer term visa options.

Expat vs Immigrant

An expat and an immigrant walk into a bar. How do you tell them apart?

So if you are a British person who works in Spain you are an immigrant but if you don’t you are an expat, that seems to be the opposite of what people in Britain think immigrants do, is that not Anglocentris?

Anglocentris....... I like that. Can I join, and is there a political party 💓👍I wait for the manifestos. Is there a meaningful vote? & when.....count me in.👍

We won’t have any manifesto or vote for a leader just like the leave parties.

Well said, Andrew - you can't tell them apart, because they mean the same thing: a person living in a country other than their country of citizenship.

Kind regards,

Kim

Expat or immigrant - take your pick they are only words. There is nothing wrong with the principle of people moving about. There is perhaps only a problem when people flout the conditions countries set for legal migration.

Migrants are not to be confused with Refugees - the two are very different and I'm sure none of us would want to turn away those in genuine need due to persecution with nowhere to find safety. Even if they arrive with nothing.

I think I'll call myself an expat when the time comes simply because I prefer the word over available alternatives :)

I am seeing a steady trickle of posts on this forum from Brits who aspire to retire to Spain shortly, and who are now realising that Brexit will make this more difficult/impossible ... specifically, the increased demonstrable income threshold necessary to gain legal Residency, and post-Brexit healthcare concerns.

It doesn't take a great leap of imagination to assume that there are Brits already in Spain (potentially homeowners in Spain) who will need to clear the same hurdles in order to stay in Spain legally post-Brexit.

And then there are those (some of them homeowners) who spend the cold months in Spain, and face curtailment of this privilege.

What is the advice of Brexit supporters to these people ?
