It is often said "everyone has a good story inside them" but, not many actually write a book. This may well be because of doubt and lack of confidence or a firm belief it would be a complete waste of time. Many famous authors have written books giving advice on how to write a book. I am not a famous author and I am not giving advice. This is a biography of how my story became a book. It took 23 years. It documents my fears, doubts and the non-belief in myself and how I finally overcame them; inspiration comes in very strange ways. Once I had completed my work, I embarked on the mission to get it published; I made many mistakes. This work is intended to encourage would-be writers by detailing all the issues that befell me in my endeavour to see my story in print. I am not suggesting anyone should follow my pattern but it may help you develop your own. Give it a try. You can do it!

I have been working on a novel for far too long. I swing between thinking that thus far, it acceptable and utter rubbish.

I have written 8 novels and 2 books of short stories.

Writing a book is he easy part. Getting someone to publish it is the hard part as publishing houses are inundated with unasked for books.

There are over 130 MILLION books out there, many are for FREE.

You can self publish on Kindle which has some ten MILLION books.

As a friend said, it is a lot of work for very little reward.

J K Rowling wrecked things with people expecting to become rich by selling a few books. Even successful authors do not make much money, and advice to a new writer is don't give up your day job.

A tip on writing. Get to know your characters and put them in situations, then let them evolve them or get out of them.

My characters have indeed evolved on their on accord, it seems!  After  I have spent time writing, it takes me a little while to return to the real work, which I find fascinating
