We seem to have a big problem with wasps/bees in our palm tree.  Does anyone know who we should contact and what at price, please.

Perfect reply. There is available a long distance spray for the (Usually small) wasps nests. Yeh! We need those bees. V

Thanks. They seem to have gone now, of their own accord.

Wasps are easy to control - just knock down their nests. I'd never kill a bee, and if bees did set up a colony, then I'd contact the local bee keeper who, I'm told, would gladly take them off my hands. Our local pet shop sell lemon/orange blossom honey, and they'd give me details of the bee keeper who supplies the honey to them.

Word of warning - a sting from a Spanish bee is more painful than from a UK bee. Wasp stings are more of a nuisance than anything else. What I call ordinary wasps deliver a sting that soon goes away, whereas what I call long-legged wasps can cause a painful swelling that can last a few days, even if you immediately apply vinegar and then anti-histamine cream.

Now, now, Pete. I didn't mention how to treat a bee sting, although I should have done.

Not many bees in North Yorkshire - it's too cold for them, or the rain batters them to the ground.

Incidentally, when I first did the Benejúzar sierra walk, on the return leg there are a couple of dozen bee hives by the track, taking pollen from all the wild flowers. There's a clear warning sign, plus an emergency contact number. Needless to say, I did a slight detaour.

There' many hives a short distance from my house. I find (unlike wasps) their agrression is reserved only for protection. My lady-friend ( who is very alergic to the wasp venom, medical centre etc!) is quite used to stroking the avejas. Jim if you walked nesr us, I'm sure you would go apiarist!. The rosemary honeyis amazing. V
