Hi

We have tiny little black "ants" in our kitchen. They are maybe a quarter of the size of a British ant. They appear on our worktops when we start to prepare food. We leave no food out, and wash the work surfaces after use. I don't recall having these little visitors last year.

We have emptied and disinfected the cupboards, disinfected all the surfaces, floor etc.

We have applied "Ant Death" powder and left it in place for a few weeks (while we went back to the UK) - they survived.

Has anybody conquered these little critters, and if so, how ?

All advice welcomed

Thanks, Kelvin

Hello

The Chino in Crevillent - and probably near you - sells a cockroach powder in a green container which is very very effective.  Good luck!

Ideally, track down where they're coming from. In our case, it was a crack at the edge of tile grouting that I hadn't even noticed until I saw one crawling out. Just stand and watch for a few minutes - if an ant finds something nice, it will go and bring its friends. If you find the entry, seal it with grout or silicone sealant etc.

I personally have never bothered with powder or traps. Just spray the area with Oro, Mercadona's insecticida de longa duración, or Zum. Zum is probably the most effective, but it's so pungent that you're likely to choke.

Every month, I use Oro on window and door sills to prevent future occurrences.

We bought some gel from MULTIBRICO which seems to have done the trick - see photo of product.

We had this in june they were coming out of the socket on the kitchen wall. Absolute nightmare had me demented as I couldn't spay anything into the socket, couldn't leave a plug in as they just used this to get down onto the bench.

Im just hoping they have gone when we go back in Sep.

The thing to do when they're in the electrics is to turn the power off, remove the socket or switch, give it a good spray with Oro, wait for this to dry, then put it back together again.

Hi, just for information as I know it's not going to solve your problem but your little critters are called pharaoh ants ( I think!!).

We had an ant infestation a few weeks back in the kitchen and in the living room coming out of the socket.  I bought Raid plug ins for mozzies and ants.  They aren’t liquid plug ins but a small disk that twists onto the front and I swear we haven’t had an ant in the house since I started to use them.  I got them in carrefour and would highly recommend them.
