A friend of ours rented out their property to a German couple who were renting with the view to buy the property they stopped paying the rent. To cut a long story short the German couple were to be evicted after many years rent free living in this property and long legal battle the day of the eviction with court officials and law enforcement officers they claimed human rights and the eviction was delayed for 2 weeks. When the owners got the property back all of their furniture has been removed from the property all white goods gone and every piece of cutlery, china etc was removed and a huge legal bill. These Germans are now renting another property in the village probably to rip someone else off. If you know of anyone renting their property out very recently warn them of these people.

Thank you. This is helpful. It shows how important it must be to rent through a reputable rental agent. One who will do checks on the people renting and regular checks on the property. It may cost more in fees but if an agent is good they should have a contract set up to hopefully stop things like this happening.

I believe that too many people take chances by renting out privately and then have hardly any support when things go wrong, except to resort to the long, slow and expensive legal process in Spain.

Be careful out there everyone!

The property was let through an estate agent in the village so that's no guarantee of payments.

Terrible situation but as others have said best to use a well established rental agent as for all it costs per month you have more protection and piece of mind. Coming through a difficult situation back in the U.K. where we still own a property and a renter in our development who originates from Poland has had to be evicted as they were subletting to new arrivals from their homeland, which turned their apartment into party central until the new arrivals got established. Total nightmare.

I think it could be a scurrilous pair that scarpered from my property in Catral. They owed me 38,000 in rent, court fees, damage to and theft of property. The police were involved and the solicitor had his cut but they didn't pursue them internationally as I was promised they would by the solicitor. They were told and accepted they had no money the one time the police caught up with them despite having 2 huge Mercedes vans for their furniture removal business. They operated in Catral for some time. They also said they wanted to buy the house. So please do all beware and look put for this overweight and uncouth pair They had a 14 year old daughter at that time in 2009. They almost bankrupted me and I am still struggling.

I should add that I dif use an established letting agent. Had I seen them first they wouldn't.have had a chance of renting my house. They behaved and looked as common as muck.

The worst thing about this story the Germans involved have rented another place in Campoverde probably with the same Intention's. It make me sick that these scum are allowed to carry on doing this to honest people.
